Too tight??

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I was banded agust/ 2012 and I just had my third fill yesterday and today has been the biggest nightmare. I tried to have some scrambled eggs for Breakfast. Got to about the third little piece and couldn't have anymore and about 15 min later i vomited all the eggs. I thought maybe i had eaten too fast as i was not used to this feeling. For lunch i put some Soup in the blender, had 2 spoons and the same with the eggs i threw it all up. The only thing i was able to keep down with a lot of pain and gurgling was a gogurt. Ive called my doctor and i have an appointment tomorrow. But I'm afraid to get an unfill and be able to eat too much but i also don't wanna stay like this. I feel so frustrated. Does anyone have any advice? I dont know if what im feeling is "normal" if i should just give myself some more time before running to get an unfill? Right now i dont even know how many ccs i have. I never thought to ask until i found this forum today and read everyone talking about their ccs but if i do end up going tomorrow ill definitely ask him how much im at. If anyone could help id be very grateful thank u!

You could try liquids for up to 2 1/2 days then go back to solids. You won't know full affect of the last adjustment until 7 days after. I had my first fill from Prof O Brien 2 days ago and am still struggling with thick liquids. But I can survive a few more days this way just to see how it turns out.

A lot of surgeons recommend liquids for the first 24 hours after a fill because of the stomach swelling that can occur. It's possible your stomach is just really irritated, especially since you ate so soon after a fill and threw it up.

Plus, eggs aren't an easy band food at all. Many people have major problems eating eggs so it's not surprising they're giving you problems too.

Granted I'm no doctor and this is just my opinion, but I'd go back to liquids for 24 hours, then mushies, then gradually work solids back in. Give your stomach swelling and irritation time to subside before deciding if you're too tight or not.

Having basically the same thing... Got a 14cc band with about 5 in. Had 1/2 cc right before Xmas. I've had sliming after one or two bites. Thinking about having it removed but I'm gonna try to eat smaller bites (if that's possible). Very frustrating but I have appt on 15th. The plan was to get an additional 1/2cc but I need to decide whether to go through with it or have that last 1/2 removed. Weight loss has been awesome since surgery 7/6/12. 35lbs to goal

I'm in the same boat. Had a fool yesterday and I could only consume a half bottle of Water today and a half bottle of Protein Shake. Even a sip of water is painful. I talked to the doctor today. I'll give it another day or so and see if it gets better. If I were you I'd stick to liquids for a few days.

My surgeon advises his patients to remain on a complete liquid diet for 48 hours post fill, and then spend 1 day on soft foods only after every fill.

Your experiences today may be that your fill is too tight, or it could be that your band area is still irritated from the fill. It was wise to call your surgeon; you should have been given some post fill instructions to follow.

I would make an effort to stay properly hydrated (because dehydration can put you in the hospital), and definitely keep that appointment tomorrow.

Don't be overly concerned to have a slight unfill; it was necessary for me to have .5cc Fluid removed after I had a stomach virus. After recovering from the virus and having less Fluid in my band, I still have more restriction than I did before the last fill which had to be removed. I don't understand it, but pleased with the level of restriction I've had since getting sick...

I hope you feel better...

I agree with Mis73; 2 days of liquid; eggs are ALWAYS a problem for me

Thank u so much everyone!

They always tell me to stay on liquids only for the rest of the day after the fill and i always do it but they never told me to do it for 24 or 48 hrs. Today after the Soup ive been on Water only but even that goes down with a lot of pain and gurgling. I guess ill go tomorrow and see what he says. Thanks again everyone. Im so glad i found this forum. I was soo frustrated and disappointed but reading what all of u have posted and having all of u answer my doubts i feel much better and so grateful to all of u who took the time to write. :-)

My doctor told me "fluids only for the first two days after a fill and the sliders on the third day".

Your doc should have told you this also.

I hope you feel better soon.

I had my first fill yesterday 1.5cc this morning it took me 5 hrs to get a Protein Shake down. And I had a lot of gas (burping). I called the dr office and they had me come back in this afternoon and the dr took some out. He told me that if I was to tight the only way it will get better is to have some Fluid taken out. I feel so much better. I was able to drink Soup for dinner. I was disappointed at first because I want the weight to come off fast. But I have decided I did not get like this over night and the weight is not going to come off overnight. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Thats exactly what i keep reminding myself that it did not happen overnight. The reason why i was debating whether to take some out or not was exactly because i want the weight gone but after today i really dont wanna be like this. I feel super weak cuz nothing will stay down and i need my energy to work out :-) thanks!

Startingover...your doctor is very wise. Being too tight generally will cause problems down the road if you don't get some fill taken out and actually will set you back in your weight loss. I will give you a tip if you don't already do this...after a fill sit in the doctors reception area and drink Water for 1/2 hour. You should know by then if your fill is ok. If you have any problems drinking during that 1/2 hour then you need to have some taken out. If everything goes well and you leave then do Clear Liquids the rest of the day, next day full liquids, then the next day mushies. Also just throwing this out there...if you get an unfill you should do liquids too. People don't generally get that information but being unfilled there still is swelling around the band.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
