Hi - I was banded on Dec 28. everything seems to be healing well, except that my left side (near the port) is painful - (like the stitch in the side pain you would get with running) and then I am getting some pain in my left back area too. I have been walking and returned to work. The actual incisions look fine and healing well - there is some brusing near the port.

How long does the port pain last?

I usually feel it (move about and a bit more pain) when I stand up and then when I sit down.

But just wondering if this is normal and when it will stop hurting... or if its something that I need to investigate.

Port pain lasts a long time, and the more active you are, the longer to heal completely. If you are still worrying about it on Monday, Call the doctor.

I was banded on Dec. 17. About 4 days out I had such horrible port side pain I called the dr. His explanation was that you start to feel better and do more. Because your port is sutured to a muscle, when you stand up gravity takes over and your fat and skin pull on that muscle causing pain. My pain lasted maybe 3-4 days, then faded. I hope yours does as well!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
