Day 1 post op question

Recommended Posts

So dr's orders are plenty of liquids but only 1-2 ounces in. 15 minute time frame. Anyone else have this? I find myself parched and I am really trying to take the dr's orders seriously. So help would be nice

He also has virtually no Protein listed on the sheet other than drinkable yogurt - any high protein suggestions there?

Thanks

Susan

Yes this is correct. I didn't know this after my surgery and I was sooo bloated from to much Water to fast. This will past quicker than anything else. Hang in there.

2mths out and can chug water if I want.

That sounds about right. Try ice chips if you need something to hold in your mouth or even sugar free ice pops. Remember that you are swollen after surgery. So, even if you don't feel it with the pain meds... don't push it too much in volume. You're doing great...hang in there.

Oh and don't sweat the Protein yet. You can usually start that 3 days or so out depending on the surgeon.

I got banded on Wednesday and I'm just starting full liquids this morning. I'm feeling so full from the swelling I don't even really feel like eating but I know it has to be done. Good luck!

If you are feeling dehydrated talk to your doctor. I did not have any qualifications on how quickly I could drink my liquids.

sugar free Popsicles saved me during this phase. I too was so parched but really even a ton of Water wouldn't have fixed it.

Try 2-3 ounces of liquid every 15 minutes and sip slowly. This will add up to enough liquid for the day during waking hours. When you add in Liquid Protein, try drinking 2-3 oz of that at the top of each hour to help you keep track. This is the schedule I used for 3 weeks on liquid diet post-op. Get in the required amount of Protein and fluids.

Bee Well!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
