Nausea 4 weeks post op.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help. my surgery 4 weeks ago and have lost around 5kgs (11 lbs) I had an infection occur at my port site 2 weeks post op and my surgeon had to re suture after draining it and it's taking so long to heal. I have been on antibiotics for 10 days. I'm off to get my stitches out on Monday bit for the last few days I have has prefuse sweating and nausea every time I even drink something. my mum who has also been banded doesn't seem too concerned. but I'm not gonna lie it's scaring me cos I have had amazing results and don't want to have to part with my band. Is this normal what I'm experiencing? Is it my body adjusting to the band? Any help or advise is greatly appreciated!

Some antibiotics can cause nausea, especially on an empty stomach. There are also a lot of stomach bugs going around from what I have read. You probably don't want to be throwing up, so call the surgeon for a nausea medication.

Bee Well!

I should probably also mention that I had a BMI of 27 when I had my band put on, and also that I have not yet vomited or PB'd ... It's just really bad nausea after eating or drinking and it's making me take in less fluids then normal.

My lapband brochure says that if you over eat or over drink it can cause nausea too. Being dehydrated can cause nausea, stomach bug or antibiotics like Chez said. There are many things that could cause it and I guess your Dr is the best to advice you.

Hope you feel well soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
