6 weeks Post Op-No Fill

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since Nov 5th. The first night after my surgery, I had reflux and heartburn so I called my surgeon's office and they removed about 3ccs from the band. I continued to have gastric issues 5 days post op so I asked the surgeon to remove all of my fill.

I have lost 21 pounds at my 4 week visit and am still losing (slowly)...

I do not have any restriction and I do not have any issues now. It seems lately like I can eat more at each sitting (more than the recommended 1 cup).

I have my next follow-up appointment on January 4th, 2013.

Thoughts on getting a fill even if I am still losing?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your weight loss so far!

Whether or not you get a fill on January 4 will be a decision made between you and your doctor. Weight loss is only one part of that decision making process. My surgeon and I always discuss how much I am eating, how long before I feel hungry (physically hungry, not head hunger), and whether I have any difficulties with any foods. Sometimes I know, going into the appointment, that I don't need a fill and I say so. Sometimes I think I might need a fill but he explains that I don't and other times we agree on giving me a fill and whether it should be small or larger.

Work with your team to make sure that you get the best results that you can.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
