Is It Possible To Be Low Carb And Vegatarian?

Recommended Posts

Hi ive been banded for a year now and Im having a hard time losing. Mostly because i cant get my eating taste right.

Historically I am a low meat consumer but since the band i have tried to up my meat for Protein.

But i think i need to go back to limiting my meat but also do low carb.

If anyone has ideas on how to accomplish this i SO appreciate your time.

Thanks

Brandi

My old college roommate was a vegetarian and she tried to restrict her carbs to keep a healthy weight. She was not banded. She ate a lot of morning start products and boca burgers. They are pretty high in Protein. She also ate a lot of Beans with brown rice. Together they made a digestible protein that separate you don't get. I know rice is not possible for a lot of bandsters though. Hope this helps a little.

I wont get my band in until january 18th, but I've been a vegetarian for 17 years (I know, how did i get this big?) I have been looking into low-carb options, too. Google "Eco Atkins diet". Also, I don't know what you can/can't eat with the band yet, but I've been buying the pre-separated egg whites and making scrambled eggs on a non-stick pan with olive oil spray and some seasonings. Beans, nuts, tofu, kale, fat free plain Greek yogurt (as a veggie dip) and cottage cheese, those are some of the things off the top of my head. Let me know what you come up with!

Thanks for the idea Gals :) i am deffintely gonna check out the info. provided

Also i understand it is EXTREMLY easy to gain weight as a vegatarian if we dont make the right substitue choices (guilty as charged) but i cant keep doing meat i truly dont enjoy it.

Thanks

After Banding, I've switched to less red meat (prior a big red meat eater), more quality vegtables(steamed/cooked), and chicken & fish. As a side dish, lentils, Beans and lots of salads, vinegar/oil dressing. Heavy doses of Multivitamins morning and night with mineral supplements. I'm not a big exercise person all my life, so I watch what I eat daily (1200-1300) calories.

I've done great so far, NO bread, sweets & pizza since before pre diet for the band back in June 2012. I've stayed away from all the starchy foods I used to devour and have stayed on course. I'm very pro good health and in my past I ate all and anything prior to lapband.

Best wishes to all and Keep the Faith.

There are lots of ways to get Protein without eating meat. I suggest you meet with a nutritionist.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
