Have To Have Gallbladder Surgery Next Week-Scared!

Recommended Posts

Went in today for an unfill because my surgeon thought since I was getting sick I may have too much Fluid in my band but its my gallbladder/stones and needs to come out. He took 2cc's out of my band and scheduled me for surgery next Monday. I'm so scared. I asked him about recovery time and he said "well it's a little longer and harder than lapband". I'm thinking wow, and I thought that was hard. Oh lordy! Just 5 1/2 post op of lapband.

Five weeks after I gave birth to my second son, I had to have my gallbladder out. I was in so much pain it felt like I couldn't breath. I felt so much better after I had my gallbladder out and I was only five weeks out from having a C-section.

I was just banded on November 6th and for the most part have been feeling good. With that said, I thought the recovery from the lap band was more difficult. Once you have the surgery, you will need to watch your fat intake, which you are probably doing already!

I think you will do great. Let me know if you have any questions....Good Luck!!

I'm surprised a doctor would say gallbladder surgery was worse than lap band. And that's from someone who had the surgery 25 years ago before it was laproscopic. And with the gallbladder surgery you won't have to do the whole liquid to mushy to solid business.

I'm thinking the same thing Honk, but he did say that. hm? People I've talk to that had theirs taken out said it was a piece of cake, no probs so hopefully I will be smooth sailing. I'm not a morning person, wonder if he'd operate at midnight, hee hee.

I had my gall bladder out in September (Friday the 21st to be exact). Saturday I took it easy, by Sunday I was doing almost everything I had done before surgery. I took a week off but realistically could have gone back to work by Monday/Tuesday. I had no problems.

I actually found my gallbladder surgery to be easier than lap band as far as recovery but I had a hard recovery after lap band. I was back at work pain free a week after my gallbladder removal and I even had my appendix removed at the same time.

I also had to have my gall bladder removed due to rapid weight loss 6 months after having my band placed. My gallbladder was discovered to no longer be working, which contributed to my first episode of pancreatitis...also no fun.

I did find that recovery from the gallbladder removal to be more painful than the band surgery, mostly due to the placement of the incisions.

I just took a day at a time (we all do!), and within a week felt much better.

Best wishes for a fast and uncomplicated recovery!

thanks all of you for the well wishes. To Carole, I think that is what the dr was talking about, it's more painful of a recovery due to the placement of the incisions. I am scared but at the same time I've had a time with all of this nausea since about a month after my lap band surgery and now it's to the point I've been throwing up and my back is killing me and I'm on pain meds which I think I wrote that earlier maybe, heck I don't know who I've told now...lol. Anyhoo, I will just be glad to attend church Sunday and then get some good rest that night and then Monday morning comes get to the hospital and get all dolled up in a gown and cap and footies, ha ha ha, what a fashion statement huh? I am praying for a speedy recovery and not too much stress on my 73 yr old mom that will be helping me and taking care of my very active Dachshund so hopefully in a couple of days I will be able to help her with my dog duties at least. I will have to sit in the recliner with a pillow over me as my Dachshund runs up my legs and my chest and lays her face up against my face loving me and she does it all of the time so I will have to be careful of that. Thanks again to all of you.

Be Blessed.

I too had mine taken out, 12 yrs ago actually. I was 18 wks pregnant with my son when they took it out. I agree with the other posters, lap-band recovery was a lot harder than gallbladder. I wish you a quick recovery, good luck :-)

I do have one concern, he took out 2cc's today so that I could have a tube down my throat during surgery, I'm so praying I don't gain any weight during this. One thing I'm craving and haven't been able to eat with almost 6cc's in is a 2" Subway turkey sub with all the veggies so I will indulge on that one for sure but other than that I will stick with one cup per meal and string chees and greek yogurt for my go to Snacks if I get hungry in between meals.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
