Everything Stuck

Recommended Posts

Did anyone notice that foods they ate before getting pregnant get stuck? Two times today food that I always eat got stuck. Like the pressure/burp/discomfort feeling. Or did you ever have this happen with pms? Just find it weird. Haven't had a fill recently and eating hasn't changed.

Ok I am not pregnant but I can tell you from experience the band is fickle. I have not had a fill since Jan 3oth this year and I eat pretty much the same food all the time and what goes down one day may find difficulty another day. No one can explain this including the physicians. I notice my band tightens early mornings and when ever I am stressed or have been sick, like with the flu. Hope that helps! :)

I feel your pain, I have a drs appt tomorrow. For 3 weeks now everything and I mean everything gets stuck in my chest it doesn't even reach my stomach. The pain is so bad I have to stick my fingers down my throat and then nothing but yellow bile comes up in globs. I'm really scared, anyone have any idea what the dr is going to say about this.

I haven't had a fill in months either and there are days I can eat just about anything and eat more than I should of it. Then there are days I am lucky to get Water down. There is no rhyme or reason. I have journaled daily to look for patterns, and once i think I have it figured out, the theory gets blown. Who knows. I agree with whoever said the band is very fickle!! I know my period plays a huge part in my bad being really tight though. I can't imagine what would happen during pregnancy as hormones are raging!! It sounds like we are all experience similar things though so it must be somewhat normal.

The throwing up of the yellow bile sounds like no fun. My guess is your band is too tight and no food is going down and you are super swollen from all of the vomitting. Try a liquid diet for a couple days and see if that helps!!

I think I'll try that liquid diet and also see what the dr says tomorrow. Thanks for the advise!

Sounds like you have an irritated esophagus. I had that problem last summer. I had to get my band emptied but if yours is already empty I'm not sure what they would be able to do. Have you told your ob you can't even keep Water down? You would think they would be concerned since they prefer you to get all your essential nutrients in everyday.

Ok guys this whole ordeal has been a mess. I went to the emergency room initially bc I have not been able to keep Soup or even Water down . This problem even with a completely empty band . No Fluid. !!!!????? Granted I am 31 weeks preg. But I had all fluid out at 10 weeks but it has been a constant struggle to eat anything . So back to the fact I went to the emergency room for dehydration . I was losing weight I list 8 lbs in one week . They took and x ray of the band and told me it slipped and they were contacting my surgeon . dr. Hollis. He said you need I have emergency surgery to have the band removed . They informed me that I could not release me bc I was unable to eat or drink . So here we go . It took two hour to set up a transfer to the hospital my surgeon has rights at . So finally approved for transfer at 7 at night . I get to the other hospital and no one knew what was going on or the situation. So they decide to have me take a barium swallow . Keep in mind I'm preg so just loading my baby up with radiation . So I took a swig of fluid they snapped a shot and it was just sitting in the pouch . We waited 10 mins took another shot ad a little had trickled through. On a completly empty band !!!! And the er doc says its flowing so everything is fine . Flowing? On an empty band and most of the barium is still in the pouch and its flowing? He phoned my surgeon and says its flowing and surgeon said drink fluids and come in Monday for an adjustment ! Um... Adjustment for wht my band is empty !!!! Thank god the previous hospital gave me two bags of fluids bc the other hospital didn't even Try . Thy didn't look at my urinalysis or blood work or anything ! Transferred me just to send me back home !!!!!! So here I am at home still unable to eat food living off off warm apple juice and hot teas bc of the fluids I received it loosend up enough for me to keep that down .

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
