Hi! Just dropped in to introduce myself

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! I'm a 20 year old female from Brisbane (Australia) and I got my band October last year and have since lost 48kg's. I have never been happier and more comfortable with my body. The lap band was the best thing that ever happened to me. I'd love to talk to anyone who has been through the same thing and is currently trying to lose weight with the lapband. Are there any people out there who are my age who have had the lapband? I'd love to hear your experiences!

Thanks,

Illyria

Hi everyone! Thanks for replying to my thread!!

Eficka: I was very excited to buy clothes that fit me... At my biggest, I was not able to fit into a size 26 and had difficulty finding any store that sold clothes that would fit me. When I went into Rockmans the other day and bought a whole lot of nice new clothes and was only a size 18-20 I was deliriously happy... I actually found shopping enjoyable for a change rather than a pain that it used to be when nothing fit! To see things like this, your clothes getting looser etc. makes you feel so encouraged to keep going!

I have not yet had problems with excess skin, although I have been told since I am young that my skin will be more resilient.. It will vary from person to person... I might yet still get excess skin but I have very encouraging parents who have told me that if it is a problem they will help me pay for surgery to fix it.. I have been told by others that Vitamin E cream and also Pilates are good for your skin to be more resilient too, if you are really concerned perhaps it would be a good idea to see a skin specialist and ask for some tips on how to ensure that this isn't too big of a problem!!

Traceylou: I'm not sure what 'pop me clogs' means exactly so I cannot provide any advice about this!

Hi Traceylou: do you mean the clogs that might occur in your veins and stop the blood? Well I was told to put down at least 5kgs (to make the liver smaller) and I was told to get of my pill (anticonception) since it thikens the blood. They said its ok to go from the pill a week before surgery, but I stopped taking it already at the end of March. I guess the docs will run some blood test and you should be ok,they know what they r doing and they deal with fat people all the time so they should know the problems that might occure.you will be fine dont worry:-)

Yllyria:well Im size 20-22 at Marks&Spencer but it just doesnt look that good on me,I cant wait to drop few sizes.

I hope that my skin is gonna be ok,but I already have bad stretchmarks all over my belly and tights,so I guess my skin isnt that good anymore:-)

I take the plastic surgery as an option and I already started saving money:-)My parents would help me as well but I want to be prepared for everything:-) You have done such an amazing job with the weight loss!

Tracylou:there is a thread 2006 April bandits or bandsters, there are all of us who are going to have the surgery in April:-)Log there, there's a lot of info:-)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
