HI,

Im new here. I unfortunately was not approved by insurance, I am a self pay. Apparently I was big but not big enough :) I am 5'3 and was carrying around 215lbs (not my heaviest) at the time I decided to get banded. My journey was a little different. I was recently banded in houston Texas, by Dr. Hollis on 10/24/12. I only lost a pound during pre op b/c I didn't diet. My surgeon was pissed, but I explained to him, I wanted to enjoy my last 2 weeks, eating what I consider to be normal & not spend it dieting, since I have to change the way I eat for pretty much the rest of my life. Unhappy but nevertheless, I was paying so he performed the surgery & everything went well. I'm approaching two week post op, on the 14th & I'm currently at 207. My scarring in minimal at this point except the one bigger incision its still very noticable. I still have some swelling at that insicion sight as well, and a little discomfort becuase my bra often rubs that area, when I am sitting. I go for my first follow up & my first fill on the 27th. I'm excited, because I'm ready to see the band actually work for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
