Post Op Diet Struggle Help!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on nov 1st I'm a week out today and I'm suposed to be on liquids for two weeks then purée two weeks then mushy two weeks well I had mashed potatoes today :( I am starving and I get shakey and weak nausea feeling on liquids. Is the potatoes gonna hurt me? I don't plan on doing it again but I hear it will make my band slip? Or cause problems?

Chances are you're fine, but technically yes, it could cause problems. Your stomach is healing. It's swollen and newly sutured. The post op diet is crucial to give your stomach time to heal.

Look at it like this: If you broke your leg and you were told to stay off it for 6 weeks or risk doing serious damage, would you go out and try to walk a mile after only a week? No, you wouldn't. So don't do it to your stomach, either.

Just get back on track with your post op diet and you'll be fine.

Make sure you get your Protein in and also your Vitamins. Drink lots of Water to keep yourself hydrated too.

It does get easier!

are you sipping your shakes?

being swollen, you need to not drink too fast, doing so can make you feel icky..just a thought..

def stick to your dr's guidelines..cheating on diets is what got most of us needing weight loss surgery..

Yes I will not do it again bc my stomach hurts now :/ I just hope it didn't damage anything :/

unless you ate a pizza and a bag of chips, i am sure your okay...but just treat yourself better.

you deserve that...

You are fine!! My doctor's post op diet is much different. I was ok to have mashed potatoes 5 days after. I was having runny oatmeal, mashed potatoes, yogurt and pudding. The best advise is of course to follow what your dr has told you, but dont' beat yourself up too bad. Google what other drs have their patients do and my guess is you will find you are aok for having had mashed potatoes!! It's ok....just be careful!!

Try eating a sugar free popsicle I know it sounds funny but I was getting really shaky on just the banana flavored musle milks , I also have dips of low blood sugar so that helped & I also had some sugar free butterscotch pudding and that seemed to help my craving for something sweet but I was starving for a week n a half so the surgeon said I could have mashed potatos only 2 table spoons full though , I hoped this helped.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
