I believe when they say "lap band over gastric" they are referring to placing the band in someone who has already had gastric bypass (I believe Carnie Wilson had this done). If the gastric bypass wasn't successful or as successful as they would have liked, they place the lap band in addition to gastric bypass.

Have you had gastric bypass? Or by gastric did you mean stomach?

Yes I had gastric bypass in 2003, but what is the difference between that and someone having the band but not over the gastric

Yes. The GB is where they reduce the size of your stomach and reconnect it to the small intestine where fewer calories are absorbed.

The LB is a device that is inserted around the top of your stomach and there is no change in your anatomy. You can eat less and lose weight. It does require more work than the GB. *if anyone wants to add or correct me feel free.

Thanks for the reply. I know the difference between the lap band and the GB, my question is? I have had the GB done in 203, I gained some weight back so I had the lap band done in Aug 2012, my question I want to know is, is there any difference between a person who had the lap band done and a person who had GB then had the band on

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
