Welcome Lady di!

I am self-pay Houston, $15,000.00 The only negative I have heard about going to Mexico is you are so far away from your doctor. Where will you get follow-ups and fills?

Hi MaryB, good question, Iam still looking at that. Dr. Rodriguez in Acuna wouldn't really be that far. That may be my best bet. But, still looking.

Hello from Idaho, I to am self pay , I have a date set for 17th april. mine is just shy 20,000.00. thought about the Mexico thing but after attending a seminar and talking to a great number of people, I know that my decision to have it done here is the best for me.

Right now I am on the preop diet and have been for about fifteen days, not as bad as I thought it would be but would kill for food...ha ha ha ha.

really it has not been that bad for me, It is helping me change my entire eating style for the rest of my life. Plus with this support I will weather the transition to a healthier life style.

I'm from Idaho too. I'm going to Tennesee to Vanderbilt Hospital for my surgery to be with my family. Did you figure in the cost of the hospital in your figuring. I know the two doc's Anderson and Cahn that do the surgery. I've heard if you are paying right up front you can get Anderson to knock about $4000.00 off the surgery. Who is doing your surgery?

Hello Lady Di,

I am from Texas also. Marshall. I also was self pay $17,500. I decided to do it locally so I wouldn't have to worry about my fills and any complications. Which I guess is a good thing, since I'm having port problems already.

Good Luck in your lapband journey.

Diana, are you afraid of going to Mexico? I've seen and heard of so many horror stories about going to Mexico for surgeries. I'm going to Georgetown for a seminar but not sure if I'll have the surgery there or check out TN. I understand they have outstanding doctors at that hospital. I am also self-pay and the price I was quoted includes EVERYTHING from the anesthesia (sp) to the hospital room to the doctor fees, the fill-ins and everything.

I'm curious about something though. Don't think me stupid or senical or anything, but if they put us on a special "diet" that we lose X amt of weight so quickly before the surgery, why can't we just continue that diet and lose the weight without the surgery? Keep in mind now that I know NOTHING yet other than the cost. I don't know what the diet consists of or how much weight they want us to lose beforehand or anything. Just something that went through my mind while I was reading the posts.

Gale

I would do it closer if my insurance but, I don't really want to be in debt forever, I still have kid's to sead to school. So, right now this is best for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
