They Couldn't Access My Port

Recommended Posts

I went in for my second fill on thursday, with the hopes to get my second fill. The first time the nurse had trouble finding the port but was able to get it on the third try, but on Thursday the nurse was unable to get the need in it only strike the side. I have visit with the doctor that did my surgery on Monday. I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the nurse\ doctor finding their port.

A little background about me is that I have lost about 30 pounds since surgery on aug 25 but only because I'm dieting like I should even though I feel little to nothing from the band yet.

The nurse had trouble the first time she tried for like 45 min. I was black and blue, she thought it slipped, I saw the Dr. the next day he got it no prob. Second fill fine. third took 30-35 minutes tons of brusing. It seems to be better now. The NP said that she has only had issues with 3 people me being one of the lucky ones(yea me). You might just have a trickey port or a not a good nurse. I think my port pyches my NP out now she is afraid of hurting me... But the last 2 times have been smooth sailing...Good luck!!!!

I have lost 70 pounds and the nurse had to feel around for it at my last fill. Port is still pretty deep. I find if I do a small crunch it helps them find it easier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
