Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks out of surgery and I was eating my blended dinner and I took in took much to fast. Then I got hiccups and vomited.

Wondering if I had a slip or anything what would I be feeling?

I doubt you had a slip. Almost all of us have done that, many times. If you PB'd (productive burped) meaning threw up / burpped up from your pouch, I'm sure your fine. If you vomited from your stomach below your band, that is the thing you don't want to do. I have never had a slip but some of the signs are not being able to keep food or liquids down, acid relux. After you have PB'd you can be a little swollen or it might feel hard to get food down for a few hours. that can be normal. My guess is your just fine.

Okay because you are a newbie and I wish someone had told me... I am going to get gross . PB ing is emptying your pouch...when you do this it will taste more or less exactly like it did going down... Vomiting comes from below the pouch and has been mixed with bile or digestive fluids this taste pretty bad. Like what we've know in the past.

The below the band vomit is of concern because in the begining it can cause tearing of stitches internally and later slippage .The pouch PB ing or pouch emptying while not necessarily good because of esphogas eroision is not going to slip your band.

Your band is tighter in the AM then later I often get a gag reflex with anything in the early AM. I hope this helps you best of Luck to you...

You should be fine- i had slippage and emergency surgery to prevent pergoratong my stomach- trust me: you will know if thats it!!! I have never had as much pain in my life!!! As if my upper body was completely shutting down- not sure when this started- but had terrible reflux / heartburn for last 6 weeks!' good luck and relax....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
