Hi everyone!

My surgery is tomorrow!! YIPPEEEE!!!

I am wondering how soon everyone went back to work and felt okay after the surgery. I'm told I have to stay overnight but can go home the next day.

Thanks!

Molly

Molly,

Did your surgeon not tell you how long to stay off work? And whether you'll have a limit for how much weight you can lift while your recovering?

It may depend on what kind of work you do. If you do anything physical (waitressing, nursing, etc.) you may need more time off than if your work is sedentary (office).

I was working at home doing a sedentary job when I was banded. I had told my clients I was taking a month off but I was so bored after 3-4 days, I started working again. An acquaintance who's a hairdresser had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the following Tuesday, but she wasn't real happy about that decision.

Good luck with the surgery!

Jean

I took a week off, but my first two days back I only lasted half a day. My recovery was not as smooth as some I've read about here.

You'll know by how you feel on day three, the first two days in my opinion were the hardest.

I was banded on 10/8 and went back to work today. I am still a little tired, but it was good to go back to work. I did find I had to be much more prepared. I had to make sure I had my Breakfast and lunch chopped up and measured out. But, so far so good. I think it will all depend on how you feel. Believe me you'll know whether you are ready or not.

I work at a tanning salon and I have to do a lot of bending to clean the beds so I'm taking a full week off then just trying to take it easy.. my mom works at a daycare with toddlers and the doctor told her to take two weeks since she's lifting

I'm a nurse as well, my doctor requested that I sign a contract stating that I will take 4 weeks off. I completed my Family Medical Leave at work and took 4 weeks off. I'm happy I did. Gave me time to plan, plan, plan in regards to eating and taking care of self.

I had my surgery on Wed the 17th and was back at work Monday the 22nd. I wish I would have taken more time. I'm drained by 2pm everyday and it is a struggle. Everyone is different! Good luck!

No heavy lifting is good, but I doubt that the general anesthesia will be out of your system after only 1-2 days off, and if you're taking pain meds, you shouldn't be driving, never mind caring for patients of any size.

If you find yourself dragging partway through your work shift, is your supervisor going to be OK with you going home early?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
