Thinking About This!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm going back in forth about having the Lapband System done. I have gallstones at the age of 27 and because I'm over 300lbs they won't take my gallbladder. My surgeon suggested the Lapband. I'm really nervous and scared and don't know what to do at this point. I'm having bad back pain and sick all the time from the gallstones. I would like to hear some of the pros and cons of having this done. Thanks so much for everyones input.

I have heard of them doing both at the same time. My surgeon actually has you sign papers saying that if he gets in and feel your gallbladder needs removing he can and also if you have a hernia that he can fix it. I had already had my gallbalder out a year earlier (I was around 235) and then had my lapband this summer. I did have a hernia that he fixed at the same time.

Gall stones can become urgent where you need immediate surgery- I would look to another surgeon. Before, you decide on lapband make sure you have done the research and you are ready to commit to it so you will be a success.

Thank you so much for your input. I have called to get a second opinion on the gallbladder. I really I'm thinking that the lap band is something I'm also really going to look into.

Why won't they take out your gallbladder??? My dr told me that if you have gallbaldder problems prior to surgery they will take it out while they are in there placing the band.

I have no regrets and really no cons. Getting used to it can be interesting until you catch on to the eating small bites and chewing well. I struggled with getting stuck at first, but I almost never have that problem any more.

So happy with my decision to be banded.

Good Luck!

I would talk to another dr about your gallbadder that is for sure. Did he say your weight was why he would not take out your gallbadder? and did he give a reason why you weight would be a problem in talking it out? I was going to say that putting you to sleep maybe why he did not want to take it out but since he said you may want to have the lap band that must not be why.

Are they able to brake the gallstones up with meds? I know sometimes if your gallbadder is not just out right bad and you only have the stones they wont take it out.

I would really talk to my family dr and see if he will send you to another surgeon if he/she feels your gallbadder needs to come out.

I dont know what he would think that...if you are in that much pain I would say that you need the thing took out. I had to have mine took out one month to the day after I have my twins. It hurt me so bad when I was prege with them but I could not have the surgery then. I was so happy to have it removed.

If your in pain with a bad gallbadder what could happen should not matter as much as what is going on right now.

I have registered for the free meeting to talk to the surgeon and learn more. I'm so excited! My Mom, Dad, and husband are going with me. I'm so blessed to have them in my life! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
