Your first 6 weeks post op is about healing, not losing. Put the scale away. You may not lose until you are at proper restriction, which could be 6 weeks, 2 months or 5 months away. Just concentrate on eating according to your surgeons plan, walking and taking care of yourself. The first 3 weeks you will most likely be eating way under your recommended calories, don't worry about it right now. And yes this will affect weight loss as you are probably starving yourself and your metabolism has stopped. You body is holding onto anything you give it. Your body will probably kick back in when you are eating more regularly and close to maintenance. My first 2 weeks post op I probably ate under 500 calories a day and did not lose. Once I started eating more normal foods things just fell back into place.

I think you can start c25k as long as you are feeling okay regardless of your weight, but not until you have been given the go ahead from your surgeon to start. Walking is okay, running is not. It will be about 6 weeks before you should do more than walking.

Slow down, let your body heal, get your head wrapped around your new life and enjoy.

wow thanks,, that was really really informative,, once im healed and restricted would 2kg a week be realistic for the first few months ??

No it would not be realistic. The average is 1-2 lbs a week which would be .4-.9 kilos a week. I would imagine that, that is the realistic healthy range. Losing 2 kilos a week may happen, but I wouldn't expect it to be the norm. This is all according to my surgeons office and the piles of documents and booklets I was given. Again every surgeon is different.

For the first few weeks of banding I wouldn't even worry about myfitnesspal. I didn't start that until I was back on solids. The first few weeks, some people lose, some don't, but it's more important to heal. As long as you aren't having blood sugar lows and getting dizzy and nauseated you are fine, if you have those symptoms give your nutritionist a call, they will be able to help you figure out good options to prevent those.

Be really careful when 1st starting to exercise. Walking is never bad even right after surgery. But you do not want to jog or do any ab exercise until you are healed. I made the mistake of do ab work to soon and I pull something. I was told I needed to be careful for 6 weeks and then I could go back to whatever I wanted. I was told at 2 weeks my elliptical was ok to get back on.

The purpose of the liquid diet is for healing not losing weight. If you so concerned you drink more shakes, nothing will happen to you either way. Weight loss will come.

Okay, I just called my doctors office - suggestions were

1. get the PURE Protein from Walmart, put a package in a blender with a few strawberries, half a banana, and an ice cube - blend until liquefied.

2. get the test tube Protein Shots from GNC. they are high Protein, low-volume. not so tasty, but you get your protein in in about 2 shots/day.

HTH.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
