The reason is that the band was stitched to your stomach. When you eat solid food your stomach starts trying to grind and churn that food up. When it starts grinding and churning its moving, that compromises the stitches that are keeping you band where it is until your stomach heals.

Its is actually very important that you do your best to stick to your liquid diet. Try mixing it up with Soups and shakes.< /p>

It is very critical you follow the surgeon's instructions and not progress to foods before you were told to. It is for you to heal appropriately and ensure the band heals in the appropriate place as well.

What's done is done but you have to fight the urge to progress along too fast. If you cannot control those urges now, what happens when you are craving sweets, fatty foods, etc. By learning to control your craving now, it will help so you don't sabotage yourself later.

So for your future well-being and for your proper healing it is so crucial to follow the instructions. It is hard but we all got through it. When you have a craving try to distract yourself w/ going for a walk or an activity, etc.

Hang in there!

Everyone makes a mistake or two on the way dont beat yourself up over it! Just be careful. Proper healing is important. I lived on sugar free popcicles!! There are so many kinds and they taste great.

A good tip I found useful.. stay away from the kitchen if you can. So many of us use to just eat for no reason just because we could or because we were bored. Being in there is just surrounding you with everything you cant have and tempting you. I even went for walks when others in the house were eating thier meals. I needed the exercise and I didn't feel like I was missing out if I wasn't sitting around watching everyone else stuff their faces.

This is a hard phase but just remind yourself of all the wonderful things to Come from this!

You have come so far and I imagine you want results without complications so my suggestion is to move on and go back to doing what your Dr tells you so you do not cause any problems for your body. Its a short part of the journey.... you can embrace it for a time. You will be eating regular food in no time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
