Shoulder pain, looking for theories

Recommended Posts

I understand NSAIDs contrubute to errosion. That's enough to keep me away from my Exedrin Migraine. :huggie:

GeezerSue - my doc says Aspirin is a definite no-no. ;) Go with Acetamenaphine (sp?)

I haven't been able to find Adult Motril or Advil in liquid form, so I ended up with children's & "super" doses, lol. Gross! I've only done 1 dose so far... but it worked. Last week's practice was awful... this week, I never even rubbed my shoulder. My pain-free-ness only lasted 3 hours, but I'll take it!

Now to pick & choose the best times. :)

Janet, if I HAD to take Advil, I'd get the liquid, too. Just be sure to wash it through the stoma with plenty of liquids...don't let it sit on your band. Since NSAID's are irritating to stomach tissue, you want to get that Advil past the band, at the very least. It's interesting that its' helping! Go for short-term use, though. Keep us updated!

Yeah, I drank a ton with it... wanted to get it to the lower stomach. It scares me! :) I think I'm going to try taking it around 2:30... since the pain normally spikes around 3. The evening pain I deal with better, so I'll skip the NSAID then. :)

What does aloe vera juice do for you? I've seen it mentioned several times lately... got my ears to twitching. :waytogo:

Aloe Vera is the fruit of the earth! It's soothing and healing from top to bottom. I usually drink 2-3 ounces every night before bed. I especially don't miss it if I have had a Stuck or PB that day, or feel the least bit of irritation in my espohogus. I buy it by the gallon at Wal-mart in the tummy meds section (tums, etc) on the bottom shelf. It's about 8 bucks. Last a good long time. Tastes...well...okay. I don't gag on it but I told Dody on another thread, it ain't no glass of white wine. However, it's so beneficial I'd sip it instead of wine in a heartbeat. I just think it should be a bandster staple. You could drink 2-3 ounces 3 times a day for a week or two and it would help alot, I'll bet. Wal-mart is 24 hours! Go! LOL

4 mos post-op I started having shoulder pain. I know it was band related because I could breathe in certain ways that pressed on the band and it would hurt. However, after a few weeks it went away as mysteriously as it appeared. I think the shoulder pain is translated from the band area. However, I think that it is nothing to worry about. I found that an electric massager worked really good on it.

thebestme is right, aloe is a godsend. I used to drink it all the time when I had bad GERD and diverticulitis pre-banding.

I've picked it back up again since being banded.

It's very healing to the entire digestive tract. From the esophagus all the way downtown.

Hi Janet,

I noticed a couple of things when I was reading your daily intake. I saw lots of Protein shakes. Are you sure its not these giving you the problem??? If I ingested those, I might have extreme gas as well. The other thing I thought of was your gall bladder. DO you still have yours???

Just wondering.......

Tricia, I am thank you so much. *hugs*

Like babs suggest it may be the protien drinks. Everytime I try to drink either Isopure, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury or anything, I get gas and left shoulder pain.

Hi Babs! Thanks for reading it all! I do think it may be the Protein shakes, or just overall hunger issues. I, um, went nuts last week & overate a ton... really, really, really bad choices. BUT... the pain went away, lol. So either it was the lack of Protein drinks or it was the lack of hunger. :D

I'm trying to get my head back under control this week & figure out which thing is causing the pain. I thought I'd beaten the pain, but as soon as I cut back the calories, it popped right back up.

I do still have my gall bladder. I was wondering about it as well. My doc suggested I take my temp regularly, lol. I'd never even considered it! ;) It's been normal so far, so he doesn't think it's the gall bladder. We see him again next Monday, so I should have another update. :D

Hope you get your pain figured out Leener! How on earth do you get all your Protein in as a vegetarian? I don't think I could eat enough tofu! ;)

This is my first post as this is the number one problem I am having as well. Left shoulder pain, radiating up to the neck. At times I have NO pain or discomfort at all, and then other times it is horrid. I don't have a gallbladder, and only had a small hernia. My doctor is thinking irritation to the diagram from the band, and has recommended a CT scan to see.

I will watch to see if it is related to eating/drinking--that had been what I thought at the begining, but I am now 3 months post op

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
