Anyone Had A Lab Band Slip, then Had It Surgically Fixed?

Recommended Posts

What are the symptoms of a slip? Is it painfull? How do you know if you've had a slip? My doc says "oh you'll know if it slips" but seems vague to me. I recently had some problems, I feel better, but that's in the back of my mind.

I cough/choke at night while sleeping, I have severe heart burn, sometimes I have mild pain at the band sit. Some days im a bottomless pit and can eat everything, encluding carbs, which normally I couldnt eat. These symptoms are chronic, meaning they happen all the time, left untreated they can become emergent. One person I know ignored there symptoms, then needed emergency surgery. The surgeon undid her band and closed her up. Now she needs to heal and if she decides, she can have another surgery to hook it back up. My worst fear

I didn't have a band slip, but I had a port flip. Banded 9/7/12, went for first fill and found my port did a 180...totally upside down. Went back in hosp, dr went in, repositioned and reanchored my port. Still on full food.< /p>

Hopefully he will do my first fill 11/19/12...finally. Tired of gaining weigh as hard as I had been working.

I haven't heard of a port flip.i guess it can and does happen.Escpecially if the surgeon doesn't get it anchored really well in the abdominal wall

My port is flipped also. Not to the extent of a 180. He has to go in from the side and it hurts like crazy.

My dr said it was common...mostly at 45-90 degrees. Said he would not need to correct that. Of course mine had to go totally overboard...UGH. Worse thing about it is not being filled yet. Been banded since 9/7/12. Soon I hope.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
