How Soon Did You Return Back To Work After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm suppose to return back to work on 9/18 1 wk post op but I think I need another week to recoup. I'm still on pain meds 1-2 times a day plus I still haven't had my first bm and prefer to have that at home. I have my first post op appointment on wednesday. I'll call my dr to set if she will extend out one more week. I'm curious to know when everyone returned back to work after surgery.

well, i had my surgery on a wed.......i (planned on going back to work that following monday) because of my issues with me going #2, i decided to take off another week. so for me it was a total of 8 days. i am so glad as i was able to deal with my shoulder pain (which lasted 4 to 5 days) and after getting on activa (capsules) my #2 issue cleared right up. i am grateful that i took that extra time for me.

dont rush it and go back when you feel ready.

I am probably the exception...but I had the surgery on a Thursday and went back to work on Monday. Looking back I probably shouldn't have gone back that soon, but as a specialized special ed teacher I had to attend meetings and the end of school was looming and there were things I had to get done. I did take it easy between meetings but by the end of the day I was beyone exhausted. I'd say...take a least a week and then do something like go to church, go grocery shopping, walk around the block and see how you feel. If you are still totally exhausted after that little bit of activity maybe you need a few more days. Good luck to you!!!!

I had surgery on a Thursday, and was planning to go back to work the following Monday. Fortunately, I posted here just like you did, and everyone told me that, while we all heal differently, I should at least take a week. And so I did, I took that following week off, and I am soooo glad I did. I was very tired by the end of each day.

See how you feel. Your body will let you know how much time you really need. Take care of yourself.

I took almost 3 weeks off, but mostly because I could. My Dr. recommends 2 weeks and I think I started feeling like myself again around day 9.

Good Question. I can only take one week off work so I was wondering about that too.

My doctor pulled me out for 3weeks, although after 2i was good, but being a nurse he didn't want me to have anything pop the sutures, lifting patients and such?

surgery- 8/27/12 ........ down 34 and counting

I had surgery on 9/10 and went back for a half day Friday and back full today. I walked two miles last night and was tired but felt good. I hardly took any pain meds. Was pretty much ibuprofen by Wednesday. I am very healthy and pretty fit( as much as you can be at 120lbs overweight.). I an just getting tired easily. So when I need to sit and relax, I do. No manual labor here though. Just in sales.

My doctor put me down for 10 business days out - so I'm 1 week post op today and go back to work a week from tomorrow. Could I go back to work today? I'm sure I could, I'm off pain meds since yesterday - but I don't want to. I don't feel anywhere near ready to go back to work. I can tell that my body has a lot more healing to do even if I'm not hurting terribly bad right now. I really think that 3 weeks off would be ever better. Just not having to deal with Protein Shakes every hour at the office alone is a good enough reason! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
