I'm day 7 and also went back to work feeling bloated. Luckily I get to walk around my classroom. The walking helped A LOT. I'm thinking I need to go walk for 15-20 min before work tomorrow SO I can feel less bloated.

Same here too! 5 days post op, and still feeling bloated and carrying a few extra pounds since surgery. Can anyone who is further along in the process share with us how long this lasts? I know it varies from person to person, but can anyone share their own experience with the bloating and extra Fluid? Thank you!!!

I am 4 days Post Op and the pain is awful. I have pain under my main incision site that constantly aches and if I move the wrong way it feels like someone stabbed me with a knife. I have been taking the liquid pain meds they gave me, and even tried a double dose a few times, but it doesn't seem to help this particular pain. My docs office also told me to take some chew-able Ibuprofen to help with swelling. Then there are the gas pains...UGH... been walking, doing breathing exercises, and taking gas x .... they actually feel worse today then they did yesterday.

I am three weeks post op and feel about 90% recovered. I felt the change from pain to just being sore around week 2. However the difference each day after the first week was relief in itself. My port incision still feels bruised and unless I hold my belly it is sore when I walk from my belly moving. It truly gets better everyday. I took off four weeks and I believe by week four I will have little to no soreness. A friend of mine told me about an abdominal band that you can get from Walgreens that holds your stomach in place but isn't tight. You can find it near the pharmacy with the leg braces an ace bandages. I would wait until your wounds are healed and the stitches are out but it is a life saver

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
