New Here, Looking To Get Banded In Jan. '13

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm starting this journey with very little support from my family. I was wondering if those of you that have been banded have any advise, not just on rallying my family, but what to expect in the coming months. I a

I would say that you become as informed as you can and then inform your family. I have full support so not sure what you are dealing with, but this is a very personal decision and it is important for the support. I have told a few people, if I don't do this, I will die - not many have argued with that statement.

Good luck with your decision and welcome.

If your family won't support you then maybe don't tell them? There is nothing worse than an unsupportive/uninformed family. My family is supportive but very "spaced out" they expect the weight to magically fall off. they think that my (relatively small) weight loss isn't good enough. they're nice to me, but i can sense the disappointment they're feeling.

If they are uninformed/unsupportive then PLEASE get support from somewhere else.

If you do choose to tell them, maybe sit them down and explain to them that this isn't magic

We'll be your support. Also my surgery center provides support group meetings every month. Maybe you can call around and find one in your area.

I agree with doing your research and learning all you can about LBS.

Good luck

I'm in the same situation, No support because they feel like I can do this without surgery....so I just decided I will do this alone with the support of the wonderful bandsters on this forum. The ones who does not support me does not have weight issues and have not walked a mile in my shoes and thinks it's very easy to just stop...they have not idea how much of a struggle it is.

But I am doing this for ME...if I become a diabetic and have other health related issues due to weight, then it will be MY problem, not theirs. That's how I look at it. though you would love their support, but ultimately you are doing this for you and not them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
