Day 1--Awesome! Day 2--Not So Bueno....help!

Recommended Posts

Got my band yesterday and, aside from some soreness, I felt great. I even took a trip to Walmart and went out to eat with my hubby and son. Well, they ate. I had some broth from their tortilla Soup. Probably ate about 1/2 a cup. It went down no problem.

This morning, I was a lot more sore. Even though I wasn't hungry, I "ate" a 1/2 cup of chicken broth. Then we went to the mall so I could get the full press treatment of a color, highlight, lowlight and cut. I didn't expect it to take 4 hours but it did. I was a little tight in the stomach area and went through about 5 gas-x strips. Then I thought I would talk some so I could get rid of it that way. That is went the pain started in my left shoulder. I was expecting this so it was no surprise but has anyone else also experienced jaw pain and hip pain? I also have a tightness between my boobs...is that where the band is? I am also on my period so I don't know if any of these symptonms can be blamed in it.

I feel like I felt after I had my son....my body is not my own.

I came back to the hotel and the heating pad is helping some. I had a 1/2 cup of broth and some iced tea with sweet and low. I am concerned that I am not eating enough to tolerate the pain meds if I should have to take them.

I am not in agony but am concerned about these aches and pains....any advice or recs? I really don't want to screw this up. It dawned on me that the paperwork the doctor gave me told me WHAT to eat but now HOW MUCH to eat on the liquid diet.

TIA!!!

Dang girl you just went through surgery.

Glad you're feeling good, but I still think you should give your body a little rest.

fostermomma, glad you are doing so well and able to get around but a little rest wound'nt hurt :-). Also, it dosen't sound like your getting any Protein drinks in? The Protein is really important for healing. What exactly are you supposted to be getting in in a day?

When do you get to go home?

Let us know how you are doing tomorrow.

Congrats on your surgery!

Honestly, it sounds like you way overdid it. Your body needs rest right now. Yes, you should get some exercise in but in the form of walking around the house and moving around this soon after surgery. I, too, felt pretty good after surgery and my body let me know the next day when I overdid it. Please do yourself a favor and rest and get small walks in at home for now. I never was laid up in bed, but I did rest. Your body just went through a major trauma and needs to use its energy towards healing.

I hope you feel better soon.

I'm shocked that some are able to do so much! I stayed in the hospital overnight then slept & relaxed the whole next day. I made a quick trip to Wal-Mart the following day, but stayed pretty low key the first 4 days. Went to work day 5 and made it through, but still very weak and slow. Soreness is normal...I felt like someone beat me up in the entire top half of my body, lol. The good news...All the gas pains (This part was awful for me. Anytime I swallowed felt like a basketball sized air bubble that kept building and building, and couldn't burp!) and majority of the soreness went away by about 10-12 days in. I'm 20 days out now and only occasionally feel sore at my port side. Also, most of the incision sites are completely healed. Just looks like a couple good scratches, but with the week I expect they'll be good as gone! :) It gets better! Just rest and relax! Now is the perfect time to get some R&R, because before you know it you'll be constantly moving and working your new healthier bod! :)

I'm three days post op & like you the first day at I was fine besides soreness but once I got home it was a whole different story. it is important to rest rest rest. Walk when you can but your body needs to rest. I keep saying that to myself everytime I get up to try and get my daughter. It's hard for me not being able to be the mom I usually am to her but If I hurt myself then what good am I? Rest up foster mama . I was told for the liquid diet the first week post op that I needed to get AT LEAST 60oz in. I am not allowed Protein Shakes until week 2. but every doctor in different

I'm five days out and only now am I truly starting to feel like myself again and (slowly) go off my pain meds, so I am ultra impressed you were out and about!

That said, I think they others are correct in saying that a bit of rest would do you good.

Regarding the pain: I had a lot of gas pain post surgery so I understand what you are saying about that - it's pretty hideous and I think that's why relaxing and resting up is so important. Unlike you, I am still able to burp so I feel like that relieves a little of the discomfort.

I have only had limited shoulder pain (thank god because the few times I have randomly got it, it was awful and took my breath away with the pain) and no jaw or hip pain. I have had pain in the middle of my chest near my boobs though.

I think ultimately, our bodies are just reacting to having something new inside us and it will take time and healing but eventually any aches and pains will go away.

5 days out, the main thing I am struggling with now is with gas pains and port pain. And I don't think you mentioned port pain? So, if that's the case - at least that is not causing you any grief atm!

Chin up and rest up.

I am feeling better today. Still some hip pain but it is getting better. I guess I did over-do it. I just thought the best thing would be to walk. As far as Protein shakes go, I can start having them today. The first 2 days post op are supposed to be Clear liquids only. Days 3 to 7 I can have 3 shakes a day. The thing is I am not hungry so I won't really know if I am full.

The hardest part for me was the pain from the gas from surgery! I was miserad for a full week and I think that's pretty normal. I alternated heat and ice for the first 5 days and most important REST even if you feel good, you just had major surgery.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
