Holy Sugar Substitute

Recommended Posts

I have a surgery date! October 8. But I am still nervous, nervous, NERVOUS!!

Ok, question for the forum, how do you deal with hunger? Once the swelling goes down, without a fill, what stops you from overeating? I know the band is just a tool. I got it and I understand but then again I dont.

I do not do well when I am hungry.. duh! Thats why every diet I have been on last about 24 hours. I am not talking about just the desire to chew on something or just eating because they left food in the break room. Thats never my problem because I am not much of a snacker. What I am talking about is TRUE HUNGER... stomach rumbling, shakiness, feel like your middle is hollow, hunger. Do you still get that with the band, even without a fill?

I have been getting my chewy Vitamins, scales, measuring cups and smaller plates ready, but it just seems crazy that I could possibly be full enough to handle my daily responsiblities and exercising without keeling over.

Any advice? .

Well... I honestly had restriction right from the start, I just was not hungry till several weeks out then it started. I could eat more then a cup of food but could not even come close to eating what I normally ate. The band is only about 1 1/2" to 2" round, my personal opinion is that that has to create some restriction, even empty. But many are hungry after the initial swelling goes down.

My best advice... eat right, eat healthy, eat your protien. There is definately some "dieting" involved. Just make good choices. It is hard to go hungry but fill up on things that are good for you.

I was scared to death to eat and scared to eat the "forbidden" foods. Wish that fear had stuck with me!

You'll do great... work that band the way you are suppose to and it should be fine.

Good Luck!

if you are hungry you eat. there is a (head hunger vs being really hungry..like with a baby). they cry when they are hungry and stop when they are full.

so when you eat (eat healthy things that make you full and are good for you). you are not on a diet. you are changing what you eat and how much. the band will help you eat less (and as fills come, help control the portions) but its up

to you to (control) yourself.

so what stops you from overeating?

you do

chill out, relax. sounds like you are a positive person.

you will do great. all the best honey :)

I am 3 weeks after surgery today and one week into mushy foods. I have found that if I am sipping Water or diet tea all day along I feel less hungry, I easily go through half a gallon of the stuff every day separate from the fluids in Soups and Protein shakes. I have noticed that on the days or evenings I neglect my fluids, I get more hunger pangs.

Also I am continuing the Protein Shakes as high Protein diet does make me less hungry. I have noticed that the Protein Shakes higher in Fiber also work better for me in terms of less hunger. Some store bought brands high in protein but low in fiber don't work as well.

Best of luck to you!

Hmm, most blood pressure meds are in $4 a month or $10 for 90 days supply at Walmart, target, Ralphs etc for cash. You don't need to go through insurance. Unless of course you have to get the brands. I always insist they check on the cash price of the meds. Just FYI.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
