Still No More Weight Loss>Discouraged

Recommended Posts

:(

OK, I may be impatient, but I have not lost 'anything' 2 weeks post-op. I'm walking, and am still in the soft food stage, so not sure what is going on. I understand my body is healing, but I'm eating soooo much less, and walking, and yet, nothing! I can't increase my food intake because I was told to eat about an oz of Protein eveyr other hour or so.

I'm trying not to get discouraged, but it's hard not to. I don't get my first fill until the 19th of Sept. I got banded Aug 17th.

ARGH!

Put the scale away for now. Focus on getting enough Protein and Water in. Many of us did not loose during the first few week post op, some of us gained weight. I know it's hard and frustrating but if you follow your doctors orders you will see the results. It takes time. Keep it up, you are doing great.

I lost 10 lbs on my first week post op, then nothing for 3 weeks, then I had my first fill one month later and lost another 10 lbs in 2 weeks, I'm on week 6 and lost 20 lbs, not much but it's something :P

You were just banded on August 17. The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing, not losing. My best advice would be to put the scale away until you are at least back on solid foods and try to make good food choices in the meantime. It's not at all uncommon for people not to lose during the healing process or even gain a little.

Hang in there and be patient as your body heals :)

I gained a bit back during my "healing" time too. I am still not losing like I think I should be, but I know it will come. Try and be patient. The waiting is the worst!!

Domika,

Don't get discouraged, as your peers have stated you are in the healing process so new out from surgery and you should focus on recovery only. As per the others, your healing times is between 4-6 weeks. I am in my 5th week and have lost weight steadily till this week I have not lost anything, nor gained. I know what I need to do and up my calories and fat grams so that I can burn fat. You don't have to worry about that yet because you are so new out. I suggest worrying about Protein and fluids at this point this is crucial in order for you to heal properly.

I on the other hand know my body is not going to survive on only 400-500 calories per day so I am going to up the ante this week and see what happens. I am moving around a lot more and it feels good to not be in so much pain doing so :)

Hang in there!

You are still recovering from surgery and The band IS NOT LIKE BYPASS! You are going to have to accept the slow pace is weight loss if you are going to succeed at this. It's not a quick fix. Hang in there, but understand that you didn't gain the weight in a week and you are not going to lose it in a week...

Hang in there. It does get better. I know it can be discouraging because we all expect to lose quickly. I hit a plateau from week 3 - week 9 post op. Then I lost 5 lbs in 1 week. So, just keep at it and it will happen.

Stop weighing yourself, you are only making yourself feel worse. Some bodies take a little more time to recover and do not cooperate well with the post-op diet. Yours might be one of them.

Instead of placing your worth on an arbitrary number, look at the way you are feeling and clothing fit as an indicator of success.

Wow I just joined & am so glad I did :D . I was banded 7/19/12, I lost 12 pounds on pre-op diet 12 more lost in the 2 weeks after surgery and only 6 pounds since then. My 1st fill was 8/28/12 and I was so hungry right after. But I am making the mistake of weighing myself daily  , because of the above replies, that will stop today. I am getting frustrated too but I am so glad that I now have "consequences" (as I like to call my band). Normally I would do a diet, start off great, lose some weight then hit a "wall" and give up. There is no giving up with the band for me. I am learning how and what to eat and getting active in working my butt off  (literally!). I am still researching band sites for more input and support here and with friends is so helpful

Don't get too discouraged. I myself had to fight the discouragement. I was banded 3/19/12. I've lost 30 since pre-op diet. I got to the point of, "why didn't I go w by-pass? It would've been so much faster." BUT, I went for my 5th fill and am now at 4.75 and the change that, that .75 has brought me has been amazing. My dr. kept telling me to be patient, it will come. He was so right. Don't give up, don't let the discouragement take over. If I can do it, you can too!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
