Even though I'm still on liquids, I'm already really aware of how I have to change my habits -- not just eating, but drinking!

Every time I take a drink from my Water bottle, I almost completely fill my mouth. I then realize that if I swallow it all, it won't stay south for very long. So I have to swallow very slowly. Invariably, that's exactly when one of my kids asks me a question. It takes minutes -- nay, hours -- for me to divide that one gulp into about 12 tiny sips. :D

Just one of those things I will have to learn -- take small sips....or at least smaller gulps!

It's always a good idea to slow your drinking - not guliping - but maybe you're having difficulties now because you're still swollen from surgery.

I'm about 14 weeks out with 6 cc's in my 11 cc band, and can gulp like crazy. I try not to, and I'm working on changing my habit, but I've never had a problem with liquids going down except the first few days after surgery when I was still swollen.

Oh, I don't have a problem...Just trying to change a habit. Spend most of my time, while I'm drinking, looking like a chipmunk with nuts in both cheeks! LOL

It's that moment between gulping it into my mouth and swallowing it that can take forever! LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
