Getting nervous as it gets closer. I would love to know any and all info about how you feel after surgury. Painful? Hungry? Sick? Losing weight? Anything would be helpful?

yes i had this in june

i healed quick (alittle shoulder pain for about 5 days but nothing pain meds couldnt help)

i had gallbladder surgery a few years ago so this was the same surgery and i wasnt scared at all

i looked at this at taking care of me and controlling my life and making myself well.

i wasnt sick (went #2 alot but that was the fluids in and fluids out thing) but imodium ad works (ask your dr always).......otherwise, i highly recommend it, hope this helps

You may experience shoulder pain from gas. I am one of the few who got sick with anthesia and nausea for two days. Once the anthesia wore off I was fine.

By the way, if you are one that does get sick from anesthesia (if you have had it before and know this), tell your dr. They can give you meds to counteract it. I had an appendectomy some years back and was MISERABLE after surgery w/ nausea. I told them this time so they put some meds in my iv during surgery and a patch behind my ear to counteract it and I had no issue with it this time. :)

Thanks everyone! So ready to just have it done. I spend my time worrying that I will be the one person who has this surgery and then does not lose weight. haha I hope thats not possible. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
