Anyone Getting Banded In September?

Recommended Posts

I am in Canada. Which band are you getting? They offered me 3 different. 2 FDA apork Ed and a French non-approved. Has anyone heard of the different brands and is one better than the other.

I am back and FINALLY am getting banded on Sept 10th! I am on the two week pre op diet now and find I want to eat way more than I am allowed.

I have had soo many false starts to this surgery that I think I am not really convinced that it is really going to happen after all!!

MJ1996: I have read good things about both bands. I just finally decided to go with the one my dr. has had the most success with. I don't know if I would use an non FDA approved band without doing a lot of research and finding out some true results.

What part of Canada are you in? I lived in Calgary for 10 years before moving to Oklahoma.

I am being banded one week from tomorrow. My surgery is scheduled for September 7th, I cannot wait. Not just for the surgery but also for this cotten pickin pre-op diet to be over with. I think I would prefer mushies over this.....Good luck everyone!

Hello everyone! This is my first post. Getting banded on the 6th. Survived day 5 of my pre-op liquid diet. Ugh! Only 6 more days of this until surgery. Thank God for Unjury Protein Powder because those shakes are my saving grace! Why is it that when you can't eat certain foods, they suddenly look so much more appetizing than ever before? Went to the grocery store today for my family. Not so fun. Oh well...no one said this would be easy. On a positive note, I am completely motivated and excited for next week. :)

Im getting banded in September as well, but im worried about being able to stick to the preop diet, i kindof think if were able to be so disciplined in xalorie restriction, i wouldnt be overweight and needing the surgery. Anyone else jave these thoughts?

You are definitely not alone. I have felt that way too, but I just keep reminding myself that losing weight and feeling good is so much more important to me than the temporary satisfaction that comes from eating favorite foods. By no means is it easy, but so many others just like us have succeeded at this, so there is no reason to think we won't succeed too! I suggest just taking it one day, actually, one minute at a time. Just deal with the here and now in making the right choices. It's too overwhelming to think of the foods you love that you can never eat again. I just keep trying to think of how good it will feel to be healthier, more active and to just enjoy life again. It'll be worth every sacrifice. I love food too, believe me (big Italian family), and haven't always made the best choices in terms of carbs and Portion Control, but I know I'll love being thinner even more than I love eating, so I'm committed to making the right changes. Good luck. You can do it!

Hi everyone! I just joined tonight - feeling like I could use a place to talk to people about all this (besides talking constantly to my boyfriend about it when he doesn't necessarily get it).

Anyways, I'm set for lap band surgery on September 11th... looks like I'm not the only one scheduled for that day here! Today was my first day of the pre-op diet which is really just like Atkins, but it sounds like others are on a strictly liquid diet already? I'm only supposed to do liquid only for one day before and then after surgery of course... interesting that everything can be so different with differnt surgeons....

hi ! & welcome! I definitely get what your saying about your boyfriend not getting it. My boyfriend is totally supportive but I don't think he understands completely on why I'm doing this or the massive changes that's are going to occur so I get tired of talking to him about it.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
