I am two months removed from surgery and still no fill. My doctor said that 40 pounds loss is great with little restriction. He said as long as I continue to lose 2 to 3 pounds a week, there is no need for a fill? Does that sound right?

Well, that depends.

Are you satisfied with a cup or less of food? Are you satisfied for 4 hours between meals?

Or, are you hungry and currently just going on sheer will power to lose despite the hunger?

If it's the first, then yes you are doing great with restriction. If it's the later, then you need a fill. You shouldn't have to white knuckle it through hunger when you have a band that you can fill to help you.

Best wishes

I am 4 months post op and also have not had a fill. I expect to get one at my next visit in mid September. My PA uses a questionaire to help us decide if I need a fill or not. It helps you to figure out if you're in the green zone or not.

Just like Mis73 said...it depends...great advice to base your decision on!

2-3 pounds a week is good but I agree with Mis73. If you are hungry and not staying satisfied, you probably need a fill.

I have to say I disagree with docs who won't do a fill simply because the patient is loosing weight. If you stick to the plan, despite being hungry, you will loose weight. I agree with what was said above about being satisfied with a cup of food for 4 hours or so. If this is not the case for you, talk to your doc. about a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
