Surgery Gas Pains

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was wondering if any of you have ever had the after surgery gas get stuck in yourbowel? I have the diaphram-neck-shoulder pain, but woke up today to very tender pain on my left lower side. Hurts to laugh or breathe even.

I do have mild diverticuli in my bowel, but to have a flare food has to be caught in it, and I've not eaten anything. Still on liquids. I was just wondering if this could be gas or should I take myself to the gastro.

:faint:

I had it really bad and though I had read about it wasn't prepared for the Gas Pain most of all the issues.

It didn't feel normal and seemed like it took to long to go away. But now it's a distant memory that "doesn't seem that bad"... Though I thought I was dying then.

I did get (and still do from time to time) a pain just like that in my lower abdomen. I do think it's gas, because I can later feel it moving out of that area in into my side or shoulder. When it's in that area it does not feel sharp like when it's in other areas, rather it feels like an aching or a cramp.

As soon as I woke up from my surgery, they had me start with my walking. I have not experienced any gas pains at all. Try walking, I know it works. Good luck.

I had the same pain and Gas X did squat for me. The ONLY thing that helped me was 1)Throwing away the fruit juices, and 2)WALKING!

The gas in your bowel and the gas in your shoulder are two totally different things. The referred shoulder pain after surgery is actually from the 'stretching' of the diaphragm during surgery - the gas referred to is actually C02 and dissappates within minutes of the surgery. The pain is from the actual stretching of the diaphragm (pull your t-shirt and see how the material doesn't immediately spring back). It takes days, maybe a few weeks for this stretching to heal, hence the referred shoulder pain. The gas-x will ONLY help the gas buildup in the bowel due to things eaten or drank. That's totally unrelated.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
