Reached Fill Limit

Recommended Posts

OK I'm going to be surprised if this has happened to someone else. I have a 11ml band. I've reached the 11ml fill and its still not tight enough. Huh, :0 right! I've reached my fill limit and food and liquid are passing through like i have no band. Dr. said this can happen when people have a small tube (forgot the technical term he used) to their stomach. Ugh please tell me I'm not alone and this has happened to someone else? Thanks to anyone who has feedback!

Has your Dr checked your band to make sure it's not leaking? Has your Dr checked to ensure that the band is in the correct place and that it has not slipped and there is no erosion. Also some types of band can actually have more fill in them than the supposed capacity. I have heard of a number of cases of this with the Realize band.

The other questions to ask are:- What are you wanting from the band. Are your expectations in line with reality.

To explain.

If you are expecting the band to make you feel full the way it did before you were banded well sorry that is not going to happen.

Are you expecting the band to stop you eating certain foods? Again that is not going to happen. If anything if your band is too tight you are more likely to eat high calorie sliders that do not fill you up and cause you to gain weight.

Maybe you should tell us a little bit more about how long you have been banded, what you are eating , how often etc. That might enable us to give you some helpful tips.

In the meantime look up some of the brilliant magazine articles (on this site) written by Jean MacMillan. They are excellent and give a lot of advice and insight into what the band does and doesn't do.

Hello-

Yes my doctor has checked the band through x-ray to make sure the band is positioned correctly and had me drink the barium ( a few times now) to see how tight the band is. He was also surprised as to how fast the liquid was moving through. He did mention in some cases even though the band is suggested to hold a certain amount of ml's a little more can be added.

No-I'm not looking to be a size 2 in a month. I realize this takes time and I'm in for the long haul. But this my 6th fill and I'm not feeling affects. Its a little discouraging.

I've been eating lots of Protein and high Fiber foods to stay full longer.

Thank you for the recommendations I'll definitely check our the magz on the site!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
