New Meds Are A Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was started on blood pressure meds 10 days ago. I go back to my MD on 8/22, but I have a question and can not wait. I also talked

to my MD's nurse but have not heard back so was hoping someone here had some info.

The new medicine for my high blood pressure is making me dizzy and very tired. At times I am just out of it, I feel weak and light headed.

I have never had high blood pressure before, even at my heaviest. I am following a low carb, and now low sodium diet. My sodium is under 1200

mg every day,I am keeping a food diet. I walk 3 miles every day and am down 55 pounds with my lap band. I am 51 years old. The meds

are lisinopril 10 mg and hydrochldroy 12.5 mg. I have been taking my blood pressure and it is around the 140/85 range. My MD told me I was

starting on a low dose and would up the dose on the 22nd. The side effects I am feeling just do not seem right and I was wondering if it

takes awhile to get used to the medicine? Has anyone else felt strong side effects from their BP medicine?

Thanks all for taking the time to read my long post. Have a blessed day!

The HCTZ in it (hydrocholorothiazide) is a diuretic. Are you noticing that you're peeing more? If you aren't hydrating enough, you could be dehydrated. Are you checking your BP at home? It may be too strong of a dose. Also, new medication can take a few weeks to get used to and take full effect.

Be persistant in getting ahold of your doctor. Make sure you're staying hydrated and check your pressure at home if you can.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for your response. I am not peeing more, but you are right I should drink more. I will work on it because I have always had a problem getting enough Water down every day. My blood pressure is still a bit high around 150/90 I take it 3 times a day. Thank you so much for the good advice! I I am getting some water right now.

ive had problems with dizzyness and some tiredness. i dont think my problem is b/p related, but im not sure.( i dont drink enough water)

i take olmetec for my hypertension. ive been on it now for the last four years.(olmesartan medoxomil tabs).

about six months ago the dose was put up from 20 mgs to 40mgs. my average readings are systolic ... around 140. i used to be hypo... very low b/p. ( with constant fainting).

Could you ask for another brand of meds?? most of them do have some sort of side effects. Perhaps this one doesnt suit you so well??

Get with your doctor and he can give you something else. My doctor changed 3 different times on me until he dial me in. Every now and then I get a high reading of 140/80 but not often. I'm hoping once more weight come off I will wean off BP meds completely. I grind my BP pills up and mix in greek yogurt in the morning. I can hardly wait when I graduate from Stage 1 into Stage 2 puree foods when I can mix it into apple sauce.

im the same. i cant wait until im off my b/p meds either.... im hoping desperately that i can come off them eventually. i had a history of fainting from a very slow beating heart when growing up and in my early adulthood. i dont know why the b/p has gone to the higher side now... practically the same symptoms of light headedness and fainting... its weird. i so much want to get off the meds.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
