Banded Yesterday...questions??

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday. Came home feeling ok. Sore but no pain. All went well last night...walked as much as I could and rested some. This morning I woke up needing to cough (I am figuring this is from being put to sleep and the tube in the throat). I managed to cough some without killing myself (oh coughing right now is not a good feeling) and coughed up blood clots. Then I had to blow my nose a bit later and the same blood clots coming out. I know if they are coming out it is good, but just curious if anyone else experienced this and if I should be worried. No signs of clots any where else right now. Just when I blow or cough and then they're there. Thanks....

I didn't experience any of that. I am not sure if that is normal or not. No harm in calling to talk to nurse at your surgeon's office for piece of mind.

I wouldn't fool with that. I would call right away and get back in and be seen...

I would call the doctor, but likely it is because the scratched the air passages during intibation. I use to work in the hospital and it was common after extibation for patients to have this. But reporting it to the doctor will not hurt.

I had the same symptoms. the day after surgery I not only had a cough but I had horrible phlem coming out of my chest. My nose was crusted and when I blew little clots of blood came out. I called the surgeon immediatley and was told this is very normal after anesthesia, but to keep an eye on it that it didnt last for days. I was asked to check my temperture for fever, nothing. The next following day symptoms were gone.

You should always call your surgeon for piece of mind ;)

thanks guys...called today...probably side effect to being put to sleep...as the day went along I am fine...a bit of coughing to clear out the throat area (which I also had last time I was put to sleep for my tubal) but other than that doing well...thanks for the advice from everyone...and I hope it was a 1 day experience and doesn't occur again...no fever and nothing going on except this morning with the nose and clots and the slight cough I've had about all day just clearing the airway out from time to time....but in general all is well :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
