Do Lap Banders, really need BREAKFAST?

Recommended Posts

Guess I am one of the lucky bandsters who has never had a morning eating issue. However, I often exercise first thing in the morning so it's typically Water for the first 40 to 90 minutes anyway. And I do eat Breakfast at my desk on the days that I cycle to work. A bowl of porridge is delicious after a cold (it's still winter here!) bike ride for 90 minutes followed by a lovely hot shower!

I totally agree. I have a cup of coffee when I get up in the morning and maybe have my first meal around 11am, lunch around 3 and dinner around 7ish. It works for me.

Hope you don't mind but I've been using your URL and the video on your site as an aide to new and wannabe bandsters?

Absolutely, that's what it's there for. Also I have just recorded more with Allergan, when they are available I will upload these and let you know also. Should not be too long. I have proofed them.

I am so glad to read this. I have been struggling with the notion if breakfast is really that important. Since I am now "filled" enough that I am feeling full faster and longer--it is rare when I wake up hungry. I have been trying to listen to my body and eat when I am hungry--which can be tricky especially since I am a teacher and I just can't pull out my first meal when ever I want.

Thanks for this valuable information.

I am really glad for this because I have been having a hard time trying to get Breakfast down, and it coming back up. Thank you for the information, as well as the comments from others.

I've only been banded for approximately four months and had one fill. I used to never eat breakfast and every "formal" diet I've ever been on actually stressed the importance of eating breakfast within 20 - 30 minutes of waking. "According to research, skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult" (WebMD). The research says that skipping breakfast has the tendency to make one eat more food at the next meal or possibly nibble on high calorie Snacks to stave off hunger. I think the reality is skipping meals is a key factor in obesity and should be avoided at all costs. Many times we tend to go strictly on how our band "feels" and not so much on what our body actually needs.

a nice warm cup of tea.. and nothing gets stuck.. i wouldn't miss breakfast for nothin.. sides.. i go to zumba just after and need something to burn.. now what you eat for breakfast is another story.. trying to stuff a salami and a pork chop down might present an issue.. but i eat fruit only in the morning. usually fat burners like papaya or pineapple... no issue here folks.. and would never recommend not eating.. just find a way that suits your anatomy.. like your rings.. when your hands are swollen, sometimes your esophogas seems to be edematous too.. no telling when though.. since theres just no way of telling from out here,, just have to pull on the "ring" a little to see hows the fit today.. if its tight.. hey.. get out the soap... thats when i eat the creamed Soups and Water filled salads.. when its loose.. its time for the chicken and cole slaw.. work with it.. find its quirks.. see if time of day means anything.. but more importantly... check out the tight factor before you make your food choice.. so you have a pretty good idea what is NOT going to stick today.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
