When Will I Be A Candidate For Tummy Tuck?

Recommended Posts

I always thought you needed to be done losing weight even have maintained for a while before a surgeon would touch you but I was watching a weight loss reality show and the woman lost just a little say 20-30 lbs and had a tt and then continued on a journey to lose about 70 more.

I've had 4 kids (a set of twins too) so sadly i have the "butt in the front" look going I swear if that belly was gone I would feel soooo goooood but I still have at least another 50-70 to go!!!

I'm scheduled for a TT on the 10th and I was told to make sure I was done losing and that I was done having kids. I am at both. I have been maintaining my weight now for over 6 months and my surgeon is expecting great results. I'm super pumped!

I had my abdominoplasty and body lift when i had finished losing weight, my surgeon would not have done the operation, for me then to continue to lose a large amount of weight she said it 'could' lead to more excess skin.

It could be that this person on the reality show had more of a repair tt on her muscles and that her skin was elastic enough to continue to retract with further weight loss. My skin was past any chance of returning to normal so no choice but to have it removed, i certainly dont want to chance creating any more lose skin that would just make all what i have gone through with my surgery a little pointless.

I think it depends on how bad your tummy is. Mine is horrid. I mean, really really bad. It was already bad due to 3 other abdominal surgies before I started losing weight, now it's simply unreal. Because mine is so severe, my surgeon is talking about doing a TT before I'm done losing.

For those with an abundance of abdominal flesh, they can have a panniculectomy, which just removes skin & tissue. The abdominal muscles remain intact.

When I lost 130 lbs the first time, I had that done. I was super fit & didn't need the muscle work since I had a minor separation. It is one of the best things I ever did for myself. I didn't want the additional risks & pain that came with the abdominoplasty, so I just opted for the circumferential lipectomy.

If you are done losing weight and you tell your doctor that, they will probably do it. If you plan on losing more than 20 more, they will want you to wait, usually.

I think the usual suggestion is to wait about a year after you've finished losing weight. This way, if your skin is going to get smaller, it will. It also assures you can maintain that weight because it would be pretty pointless to get a TT and then regain some weight.

I had lost 170 lbs and got down to 150. I had a massive amount of skin. I am up to 165 post surgery and it's all in my legs and butt. But I can tell you I didn't gain ANYTHING in my stomach..it's really incredible what they can do. I'm getting a breast and neck lift in 5 days and then the arms in about 4 months and the thighs several months after that. I want to shrink my thighs a lot first, lol.

Oh, I had only maintained my weight loss for about 3 months but waiting would not have gotten rid of any of that skin!

Hi I have an appointment with plastics in two weeks. My insurance will cover the panniculectomy completely. I can't afford to do the "works". I am glad to know you are pleased with your results but I am curious, do you still have a belly button or does that get removed? I've looked online but nothing comes up for a search when I look just for panniculectomy.

Thanks so much!!

Wow you look sooooo amazing and very brave to share those pics, thank you. My question to u is, was that surgery very painful. I'm do terrified of how painful it may be that I consider just living with the flabby skin. But the difference I simply amazing and it's making me rethink my choice. You are very inspirational :)

for the best result and the chance of not having to have a revision, it is best to be at goal and to be stable at that weight for 6 mos to a year. You can have it done earlier and I did due to mobility issues, but I knew going in that I would need a revision. I was fine with that. After losing 270lbs I had 19 lbs of excess skin to remove from my tummy and arms.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
