Teens with the band

Recommended Posts

I'm 18, recently graduated HS in May, and am taking the right steps to be banded. I am so excited and hope I can get this. I've been large my entire life and I'm tired of it. I want desperately to take control of my life and know I'm going to be healthier overall. I have my first appointment with my PCP on Thursday to sign off for my surgeons and I am also getting all my labs done, should be fun!

I'm towards the end of the -teen spectrum, but I'm still one!

I just wanted to pop in and say hi, and wish you all well. I'm 24, and glad someone started a 20's thread, because I have this weird identity crisis thing goin' on... I know logically I'm in my mid-20's, but still feel like a teen on the inside.

Anyway, I've been overweight since I was 7 years old, and really suffered through school emotionally because of it. The fact that you guys are taking control of your health earlier on in life is awesome, and I wish you all the best, because stupid people will try to bring you down over flaws, but at least you know you're doing something for yourself, and the self-esteem that comes from that is priceless! :)

Hi guys, my son is almost 15 and he desperately needs the help. I have been getting the talks like "you need to get in touch with your feelings to stop overeating" etc. but I believe he is plain enjoying his food and not active enough and over the years it has added up to 295 lbs. I believe his best weight will be about 185-90, though he is 5'9 the guy is seriously big boned and muscular.

So how did you get the banding at a young age, did you have to really fight for it? :help:

Metamucil or other mire organic psyllium type of product can help absorb excess liquid but if you are having an acid bowel you should switch to non acid forming foods. Just google it. Brown rice is good, also citrus, fresh only. Stay away from meat and dairy.

Hope that helps (besides meds...)

Im 19 and have finally made the decision to get lap-band. I was shocked by my mom's response when i told her I was considering it. She used to be about 250 and it took her 15 years to get to 165. She struggled with eating disorders for years when I was young and it wasn't until the last 2 or 3 years that she has been living a healthy life-style.

I am currently at 205 lbs and gaining. When I told her I was considering surgery, she said "What? You just need to get your butt up and go to the gym." I will be paying for the surgery myself so I know the reaction wasn't about cost. I was caught off gaurd by her response, especially b/c she has struggled with her own weight.

I have tried diet and exercise. The most frustrating thing is to get leg pain from exercising and then having the doctor tell you its b/c you're too fat! My mom helped me deal with an eating disorder as well- I got down to 128 lbs by not eating- and I'm 5' 6"- I looked scary. I don't want to ever go through that again.

Long story short, have any other young bandsters dealt with a lack of support of their decision? How did they deal with it?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
