First Appeal For Panni - Help?

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

I just received my first denial from Cigna for a panniculectomy. They didn't deny that it was medically necessary, just that it wasn't covered by my plan. I spoke to a fantastic rep with Cigna that urged me to appeal the decision but couldn't go into much detail about what they would want to see in the appeal. I vaguely remeber appealing for my band but it was 4 years ago and can't remember exactly what I did. The plastic's office won't help - apparently once they see there's a chance they aren't getting paid, they put their hands up. They won't even give me some tips of what the insurance company would want to see. I'm going to resubmit with the original documentation from the plastic's office, the lapband surgeon's notes and the photos along with more photos and a letter from my pcp. Is there anything anyone else has done to push that appeal through? Any tips or documentation I should include? I skimmed through other postings similar to mine and noticed that some members were offering sample appeal letters - does anyone have a copy I could check out?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-Emily

Im pretty sure one thing insurance companies look for is if you get skin infections, raw areas, etc. from the extra skin.

If that's true, I will donate all my extra skin. They can have it all!!!! Do you have a site where I can go to see if this is the case? Or a number I can call?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
