I'm so excited! Anyone else being banded in Sept? Anyone else told they dont have to do a liquid diet pre-surgery?

I love this forum because Ive learned so much. What were the things you wish someone told you but you had to find out the hard way?

It is going to HURT. You may read the words, and understand there will be pain, but you do not know the pain until it hits you. And it will hit you hard.

You won't be able to eat the same amount of food you used to. You've heard this before, however the realization may come until after the fact.

Pooping will not be the same - kinda gross but true.

I'm assuming you're doing this because you have explored other options (like going to the gym 5x a week for 2hrs a day but it didn't work regardless) before deciding to do this. If you didn't try that option first I would do it and then as a last recourse do the surgery. Otherwise, keep the hope alive and good luck with your procedure.

I'm being banded on 8/24, but wanted to reply and let you know I don't have to do a preop diet either. I'm going to be doing one anyway, on my own. My hubby is currently recovering from gastric bypass and when he starts mushies next week I'm going to join him by eating the same things out of support. I also think I will lose some weight in the process and it will prepare me mentally.

Good luck!!

I wanted to comment on the pain comment. I would say my pain the first day at the port area was about a 5. Day two about a 3. I had NO pain from the gas that is pumped in. NONE. I was very concerned about what I read on here about pain levels. I am allergic to Codein, Morphine, etc so knew I was going to go the tylenol route. Nowhere near as bad as I expected.

I was banded 4.5 years ago and I didn't have to do a liquid diet.

The pain is NOT that bad. I am at goal and I am happy. Dob't listen to that other poster. Exercise is important and I did exercise a lot after the band but I could not have controlled my eating without the band. It is a great tool!

You made a great decision.

Good luck!

Thank you for the replies everyone. I am expecting pain but I also had a breast reduction and the naysayers were out there too. I was uncomfortable but no pain no gain or loss in these cases. I expect it to be somewhat painful but it won't be the first pain I have experienced. My knees, feet and hips will be glad to share the pain with my shoulders. I'm 5'5" and 240lbs but I was underweight until college. I would take almost any level of pain for two days for a lifetime of better health and being freed of the life of an obese woman. I'm tired of hearing "you have such a pretty face" and spending twice as much on clothes in plus size stores. I want to buy my jeans from New York and Company and be able to wear heels without feeling like my knees will cave in.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
