What About Wine???

Recommended Posts

Though not an alcoholic, wine is my downfall. I drink too much in the evenings... And then I get hungry. (Something about white wine, though dry, that sparks my sugar/hunger levels....) Then, because my inhibitions are lowered, I eat things I should not. I know banding is a tool that can help control appetite and aid weight loss..... How will I handle giving up the wine??

I don't understand your question? Are you asking How will you handle it emotionally?

Because you know you make bad food choices when you're drinking it, you should limit to maybe once per week if not only a couple times a month.

I, too, am a wine drinker. I know it has slowed down my weight loss, but I'm still losing. I do count my wine on MyFitnessPal. I make sure I get all my Protein in. I didn't have any wine for almost two months post surgery, but since then it has crept its way back into my diet. I have noticed that with greater restriction in my band, I do drink less than I did pre-surgery because there's just not enough food in my system to absorb the alcohol and I can't stand to feel "fuzzy headed". And lately there are some days I just don't have a taste for it at all.

Wonder what you are asking can you drink wine.... Yes... should you drink wine ....well lets see when you drink wine you lose your inhibitions and eat more then you should and not what you should..... Hmmmm.... the band is a tool not your conscience ......Perhaps drinking wine for you should be put off for awhile , or maybe one glass once a week until you not your band gets a handle on the situation.

My surgeon advised that all alcoholic beverages, including wine are a huge NO for the entire first year post op.

My doc said alcohol is basically just empty calories, try the skinny girl line, it's good and reasonable priced, I am currently enjoying their cucumber vodka, with just Water it's delicious!!! And still gives the same "relaxation" that you are looking for, the vodkas are new but they have margaritas, wines, piña colodas as well as other drinks, I swear I don't sell this stuff haha! Maybe I should though!!!!

i dont think there is any easy answer to this one. im like you, i love to have a couple of glasses of red in the evenings. one thing though... it doesnt make things any easier for me when i come to eating a meal. i dont lose weight and dont put it on either. i will have weeks without and lose a lot... then a few wines and weight loss stalls again. im using it as a tool to slow things down more. l ol. not that i recommend it to others. i would never do that. i think its just another area of discipline.... and i know thats not easy. good luck.

The only reason to give it up would be if you were counting calories.....

I don't and have not cointed calories in over a year, and I NEVER drink anything while I'm eating...even Water.

I have the same problem. I now limit myself to 1 (large) glass a night when I want it, but I go into it telling myself that I'm only allowing myself to drink because I will NOT allow myself to eat after consuming alcohol. I eat dinner before, and nothing after alcohol. thats my rule..out works for me :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
