6 Days And Already Cheated

Recommended Posts

Just banded 8 days ago... I've cheated in small ways almost every day. My doctor's prescribed diet is extremely restrictive with Clear Liquids only for the first 4 weeks. Addition of Protein Shakes on day 5-7. Addition of cream Soups on days 7-14. Finally pureed mushies on days 15-31. I can't handle it. I've been allowing myself to eat 4-5 cheez-its at a time with my son just to enjoy some texture. Yesterday I pureed Thai chicken Soup with red curry... yep, it was spicy. I haven't hurt myself yet, but do recognize that I should be very careful.

It seems like the post op diets are just as varied as the pre-op ones. I wouldn't have lasted on clear liquids for 2 or more weeks post op.

yes , we all have bad days and every day we all get to start over.

but please remember you just had major surgery.

the dr's put us on these diets for a reason. my dr told me about a couple of people (who diverted) and ended up hurting themselves. i am not saying you all did, but if you cant control your eating now, how can you do it later? you gotta believe in yourself and mentally change your eating habits. the band cant/wont do all the work.

i overate and cheated on my diets to gain weight and got my health so bad that i needed WLS surgery.

i managed to go 4 weeks liquids on the pre and post op. yes, it was hard, but if you want to be healthy, you can do this. and a few more days wont hurt you. think of the bigger picture. your health. you can do this. please follow dr orders in regards to what you are suppose to eat.

drink if you are hungry. drink your Protein (it will make you feel full). sf popsicles saved me.

all the best.

The diets Doctors use varies greatly! For instance I had no pre op diet except only Clear Liquids for 24hrs prior to surgery with nothing from midnight the night before. As for post op, I was not discharged from the hospital until I ate a small meal of mushy foods, was then on mushies for a month, then onto solids. My doctor also considered soft moist ground meats as part of the mushy phase, meatballs without breadcrumb fillers in sauce was a fave. With these small limitation I had a much easier time then most people I am sure. I have to wonder why the major differences? Maybe I have you lose faster with the stricter requirements but I have had no health issues with the band and am currently hovering jut under a 90lb loss.

Don't beat yourself up, you are SO not alone! There are so many varied pre and psot op plans that a one-off oopsie shouln't be the end of the world. My surgeon told my husband (when I was in recovery) that the post-op diet is mainly mental. The first Remember you are treating yourself to a brand new you :). I cheated. I sucked on a soggey french fry 8 days post off (so sad). Yesterday I had a nibble of a piece of rosemary chicken. Remember, each day you get through is one day to being closer to being able to eat solids again. Tomorrow I start mushies, and in 1 weeks SOLIDS. You will get there!

I agree, the diets vary so much. I think I would go crazy on clear fluids for so long. I was on clear fluids for only 2 days, Now on mushies, then tomorrow (1 week out) I can start softer solids like canned fruit and whatnot. Hoping at my check up on Friday, I can move on to regular foods.

Okay, stand still and we will all beat you with a wet noodle. Feel better? Now, since you fell off, climb back on the wagon and start over. As others have said, now is healing time, so don't make your stomach work hard. Best wishes and go with the knowledge that others before you have fallen off the wagon and have climbed back and lost weight. Take care and take it easy. Karen

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
