First Fill And Plateau

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 11, 2012. I am 4 weeks post op and go in tomorrow for my first fill. I am nervous because I can not find my port. Just anxious about the needle thing! Crazy huh considering I went through the surgery fine and that was major in comparison! I have not lost weight since the liquid diet prior to surgery. I am eating anywhere from 900-1000 calories a day and the weight is not coming off like before surgery. I have read on here to increase calorie intake to restart the metabolism so to speak. I had lost 41 lbs on my own before surgery and getting frustrated that it is not coming off now. Any advice???? I am going to talk to my surgeon about this tomorrow. I am eating the Protein like I am supposed to---but getting impatient.

I had my surgery 6/12/12! So right there with you. I started walking the day after surgery, By week two I was walking about 2 1/2 miles a day. I too wrote everything down that I ate. Getting in about 900-1000 a day. The weight was coming off super slow down a pound up half a pound. Total of like 6! Ugh Couldn't understand why? I was eating less working out more so why so little? So I tried a little experiment . Did opposite of what I had done last two weeks. Did not walk for three days, did arm weights ( light) kept on same calorie intake and have lost another 4 1/2 lbs! So my theory, I was working off every calorie I consumed. Leaving my body to go into the mode of hang on to what you got, because your not keeping it fueled appropriately. Not to mention just changing up routine to jolt body into another mode. So today back to walking and this is also the last day of liquids for me. Tomorrow will be interesting. Just not sure what sounds appetizing or "safe"! I'm so used to yogurt cottage cheese and muscle milk! So I am curious myself to see how week 4 will go. Hoping I continue to lose, I am happy with 2 A week. Just hope my theory was right!:-) Good luck. I am in need of a buddy and you seem to be in the same boat as me, Keep in touch!

Have been swimming laps at least 5 days a week since 1 week post op. I may be burning all the calories huh? I might need to back off a little and increase calories.

I had my first fill today! Dr. Put in 2cc to the 1.22 he added when banded which gives me 3.22 cc total. I was worried for nothing. The fill was super easy. I had also lost 10 lbs since surgery 4 weeks ago!!!! I thought I was at a plateau?!!!! I am super excited about having my band now! Dr. Told me if I continue at the same pace I'll reach my goal weight around Christmas!!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
