This is my first time to this site. I have had my first appointment with the doctor, the paperwork has been submitted to the insurance company and I'm awaiting approval.

Because of my insurance, I just completed a 6 month supervised weight loss program with my primary care doctor. I've been loosely following Medifast and lost about 18 lbs. Now that I've finished that, I'm eating all my favorites that I don't think I will be able to enjoy after the surgery. I've regained about 5 lbs.

I'm very excited to enter this new phase of my life; I've been overweight throughout adulthood. I've tried Weight Watchers and other programs. I am usually fairly successful, but it doesn't last and I regained what I lost and then some.

I think my BMI is about 46.5. I have high blood pressure and sleep apnea. I am also pre-diabetic. I'm ready to be healthy and do things that other "normal" size people do. I don't want to worry if the airplane seatbelt is going to fit. Looking forward to sharing my journey with others on this site.

Thanks!

Happy for you as you continue on your journey...and yes many good people on here and ALWAYS ready to give support and advice....Its most likely the hardest thing any of us have done....so any help is welcomed...

I always thought people who drink ..smoke or do drugs which are ALL addictions as food is for most of us....have to make a mental note to get them....we all HAVE to eat.....so in many ways it doesnt seem fair ....May God Bless You on your journey...

I remember being where you are. Sometimes it feels like you're on the verge of a great and wonderful journey, and then other times it's like you're standing on the edge of a cliff with no parachute. Wholly crap, what have I done? LOL

It sounds like you've got your head screwed on straight so we're looking forward to your posts and progress.

Welcome, I'm just starting the process too. I also have lost weight with WW and Jenny Craig, but I struggle with the follow through. I am hoping that the band will help keep me from wavering. I know how to eat healthy, but I tend to eat too much, and I think the band will be a good reminder not to. Good luck on your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
