...I am a woman of wealth and taste. Ok, not really.

However, I have been overweight for a long, long time. I am also not necessarily a Rolling Stones fan, but I do like that song.

Ah, so now that we have that out of the way, here is my intro:

I am married. I have 2 incredibly awesome (and freaking hilarious) kids (3 and 4 years old). I work full-time - sitting on my butt at a desk. I like to read. I like internet forums. I like to spend time with my friends and family. I am an extrovert - more so when I am consuming copious amounts of wine. I also like beer, but tend to avoid that because it makes me feel fatter than I already am. I love to cook and tend to cook healthy stuff. I love love love to entertain and have parties.

I am fat. My husband lies and says I am not, but we all know he is lying. It isn't that I don't know how to eat right or that I don't like to work out, I do both of those things. But...I don't do them enough or consistently.

I have battled the scale for too many years. Too many. I was in the 230s in high school. I was in the 140s/150s in college (at least for a couple of years). Then I was in the 180s. Then it was the 200s. Then the 230s. Then I got engaged and did crazy diets and got back to the 170s. I got married, I had lots of miscarriages and shot into the 250s. I had 2 kids and hovered. Then I weighed 270 at my doctor's office. It freaked me out a lot. I got denied for WLS a few times. Then I got really pissed off and started doing the right things. I lost about 30 pounds, but then the scale just freaking stalled.

Cue the phone ringing and my place asking if they could resubmit me. I said ok, but I will just get denied again. A few weeks later the phone rang again and I was notified that I was approved.

SOOOO...here I sit. I am approved. I meet with my doc in 13 days. I have surgery in 23 days (July 19)!!! I am so freaking excited.

I also started a bloggity blog. I plan to write about my WLS adventure, my kids, the weather, whatever strikes me at the moment. I suck at blogging, but I am hoping I can stick with it this time.

If you have read this far, you are a saint.

That is awesome that they resubmitted for you! Congrats on the date set.

I am also very extroverted and especially on wine. I wonder how I will be when I reach goal weight and no longer have the insecurity of the weight issue. I cannot imagine being more extroverted but my weight does hender my self esteem. So I may be dancing on bars and singing kareokee. Oh, who am I kidding, I do it now as long as the bar will hold me up:)

It is nice to hear from you. I can tell by your post you are fun, sarcastic and you have a great attitude. I wish the best for you on your journey. I also peaked the scale at 270 2 weeks prior to surgery (however I was heavier a few years back). I am 7 weeks post and already done to 247. Super happy and just hit green zone this week so it feels great.

October 27 happens to be my handsome husband's birthday!

Thanks for the warm welcome to everyone. I plan to be around these parts frequently. I haven't decided how many people I am going to share this with in real life. It isn't that I am ashamed of WLS, it is that I don't want to have to punch someone in the throat if they give me grief about it.

Also - I really, really, really hate when someone assumes that their way of losing weight is the right way and I get real twitchy when someone says "If I can do it, YOU can do it" when they are bemoaning WLS.

I am right there with you on the viscous cycle. I hope you get approved! Fingers crossed. Toes too because I am cool like that and my toes are freaky.

i feel the same way. i've just told my family (to which one of my sister in laws (who has been trying to lose weight) responded, "thats like cheating!" i was so angry... thankfully my other two sister in laws let her know that this is the hard way, not easy way.), a few friends (who have all responded well).

i really hate when people think its the easy way to do it! i've been on a pre-op liquid diet right now and its the hardest thing i've done so far in my life probably! they think its a magic surgery, but i have to do all the hard work too. so yes.... maybe avoiding sharing can avoid some throat punches. lol

After a 15 hour shift your post made my day. I've been banded since 9-20-11 and wish I'd done it 10 years earlier.

It's all good. I look forward to reading your bloggity blog.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
