Good morning. I am post opt December 18, 12. Like some other comments on here I to was always hungry. Even though I still followed all of the rules I was still always hungry. So last night I decided to push the envelope a little. Wrong. When I eat I use small plates and small forks so I do not put much on it and wait 1 minute before eating another bite small bites. So last night my aunt sent some dry lima Beans with dumplings and it had beef in it. So instead of me just getting a 1/2 cup of the beans I grab a big bowl because that is my weakness meal:(. So sometimes I even forget I have a band. I ate that bowl of beans not slow and I did not chew chew chew along with small bits of beef. So I was in excruciating pain from 8 pm last night until 6 am this morning. No matter what I did I could not find relief. I try not to throw up but I ended up doing that hoping I would get some relief but I did not. I moved around asking God to take that pain away and I would never do that again. Nothing work. I kept my husband up all night for doing that. I ended up throwing up again and it scared me because it was coming out of my nose also. I called my doctor and told him what I did but it was nothing he could do and he told me I just had to wait until it passed. I was in so much pain I did not think I was going to make it. I am still in a little pain but nothing like last night and this morning. I will never ever do that again. I try to eat some Tomato Soup this morning and I felt like I wanted to throw it up so I did not eat it. Has anyone ever been in this situation and if so what did you do. Did you go back to liquids or soft foods. The doctors do not like it when they hear this and I could tell my doctor did not like what I did. I will never put myself in this situation again. Times like this if anyone ask me would I do this all over again and I would say no!! No I would not do this again. But after thinking about it this is why I am in this situation now because I over ate and with the band it keeps me from doing that until last night. Never again but I am still glad I went through with it. Now that I am feel a little better I would do it again.

I am only 2 days post-op and am interested to learn more about "slime" and "PB". Can somebody explain it a little more extensively. Is it because you didn't chew enough or is it just something that happens?

When you eat too much, too fast, too big a bite, food sometimes won't pass through the stoma(band portal). This causes the small pouch to fill up and if you continue to eat, it all backs up(stuck). Being stuck causes your esophogus to create a lot of flem/saliva to aid the food to slide through into your stomach area. It can back up and you spit it out. PB(productive burping) means that sometimes you can burp(small regurgitation) up some of this stuck food to alleviate some of the pressure the food is causing.

Ive been banded for 4 years. My surgeon told me to drink a can of coke really fast, skull it.

The gas will expand your belly and the blockage will either pass through or you will bring it up.

Must be full fat coke, not diet or zero.

It was the most painful feeling after drinking almost the whole can, dont be scared that your having a heart attack like I did. Immediately after I did a huge burp and could feel it go down. Be close to the toilet or basin because it could all come back up very quickly.

This is such a great thread! I have had this happen to me, but was "scared" to talk to my doc about it. (he is not very personable - LOL). But now I know it "normal". I am about 3 months banded and still working on what works. I have never had the slime, but have the PB every time I eat. I figured the burping was because I do spend so much time chewing that it must allow air into my stomach some how. Does anyone have problem with excessive gas? I have never had so much gas in my life, I am almost afraid to move sometimes cause it could just slip out. So embarrassing! Especially since I work in an office. I try to walk real slow to the bathroom and hopefully get there to let it out. I tried taking some Gas-X but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

I have gotten stuck - several times - and hot liquid (tea)' date=' pineapple juice and pills don't help me. Too Stuck for anything to go through. I slime, PB and then god willing, throw it up. The pain hurts, can't breathe, cant swallow. It is awful and 99% of the time it my own fault. Too big, too fast, too much, didn't chew long enough. LISTEN to you body and STOP eating getting stuck is no picnic !

Oh my God! You got that right. It happen to me the other day and it lasted almost 2 days before i got relief. I threw up twice but no relief and it was my fault. I am post op Dec 18 and i ate to much. The pain was horrific. It was terrible. I will never do that again. Listen to your body stop when your brain tell you to slow down and eat slow with little bites. Yes getting stuck sucks!

When I got stuck, and I wanted to end it quickly, I would go to the bathroom and sip some Water.....if you are truly stuck, the Water will only add to the volume - slime in your pouch and up it will come, having no where else to go....

If the water passes through, your not that stuck, and it will pass on through on it's own....

I have a lot of friends who swear by Papaya Enzymes.....they carry them with them everywhere they go....I have never tried it, but I hear positive things....

Also, when I worked in the ER years ago, we used to have meat Tenderizer on hand....stuff everyone has in their kitchen.....mix with a little warm water and sip....again, never tried it myself.

I guess papaya does the same...you can get it in any Vitamin store....

I get stuck quite often. I am still trying to get the bite size right. I started eating with a baby spoon. It helps. I ate something the other day and got stuck. I ate it again today smaller bites and chewed thoroughly. It went a lot better.

Try smaller bites. That was part of my surgeons instructing. And he was right.

I am thrilled that I found this thread. I have laughed all the way through it.

I had this happen to me for the first time this morning. I didn't know if I should call 911. It lasted about 30 minutes. I hope to have learned my lesson and will chew, chew, chew from now on. The excess gas has been a problem also. My boyfriend just laughs - although we have been together for 14 years, I don't think I burped or the other in front of him. Yeah, I know - I'm a little weird about those things.

Here's to smaller bites!

Usually I get stuck when I'm hungry and end up eating too fast. It's always my fault, I think my band is at the right tightness though.

Usually what happens to me, is I try to tough it out, but I get progressively more nauseous until it comes up on its own. I sometimes encourage it because the feeling really hurts and ruins my meal. I find that after I throw up, I take a minute or two, and some small sips of my drink and I end up resetting and I can attempt my food again, this time slower and more controlled.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
