I am scheduled for my EGD on July 3rd. Anyone had this done and what's it like? My insurance won't cover my surgery so they are checking for a hiatal hernia. That way if I do have one it will be covered and I will have little out of pocket costs.

I had one last month. They used profonol. It was wonderful. Don't remember a thing. Woke up quickly feeling refreshed. No nausea. No sore throat. Very good experience. My first EGD several uears ago was not as good of an experience, but that was done with twilight sedation which does nothing for me.

I was dx'd with a hiatal hernia. I am having surgery to fix it in 3 weeks. My band will be repositioned at that time too. Insurance is covering it all. I was shocked since I have an opt out clause and was self pay.

You will do fine!! :)

That is good to know. I hate the thought of being even partially awake for the EGD. I'm a big worry wart too. But if I want to try and get insurance to pay I have to have it done. Thanks for the input! Don't know what I would do without this forum.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
