I have a friend who just got bypass a week ago. I asked her how she was doing and how much she was down today, and the firs thing she told me was "I miss being hungry". Which was a total surprise to me. Do you miss being hungry? how do you cope with that?

Well................... your friend is only a week out of surgery, so she probably doesn't have any appetite yet. So, to her she "misses being hungry." Her appetite will return, as having weight loss surgery does'nt take away the feeling of being hungry, you simply get filled up faster with smaller amounts. I dont know about gastric bypass, but the band will let you know when its time to eat. According to my Dr, as long as you follow the rules 95% of the time (healthy foods in small amounts, regular exercise and stay up on fills as needed) you'll be successful. So far, so good !

Ironically, prior to lapband surgery, I never was hungry as I always had food in my stomach! I only learned the feeling after surgery and realized what it was and I actually like it as it tells me that it's time to eat for sustenance, not any other reason.

I am a year and a half post op and have experienced actual physical hunger only a dozen time or so since being banded. I do not miss being hungry at all :) I love not feeling hungry! On the rare occasion that I do feel physical hunger, it seems to be stronger than before I was banded, maybe that is because I too always had food in my stomach. Good luck to you on your journey!

The band helps me go 4-5 hours after eating before I get hungry. I often have long stretches between lunch and dinner 6+ hours (and I go to the gym during that time). So I def. feel hunger.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
