I forgot to ask the doc today if I still had to sip slowly or if I could drink faster now. I'm about 10 days post op. Sometimes I get so thirsty and small sips just doesn't cut it

I'd probably start taking normal sips; I find big gulps sometimes get a little stuck and it can be painful until it passes through.

I asked my doctor at my 7 day post op visit. I was staying dehydrated because I was scared to have more than an ounce in 15 minutes- lol. She said it should be fine now to drink but I probably shouldnt gulp my drink. Past two days I have drank like normal and feel way better actually. She also said no more liquid calories except milk on occasion as a snack.< /p>

I could drink normally until my third fill. Now I have to take small sips. If I wake up in the middle of the night I am so thirsty I forget to sip, then it hurts! Just get in the habit of not gulping so that when you can't, you won't keep trying to!

im over two months post op and i still have to be wary of how big a mouthful, even with liquids. you should be able to increase but it wont be ''sculling' like you perhaps used to. sometimes when im really thirsty i have to make a real effort to slow down with my drink.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
