Told A Two Friends At Work

Recommended Posts

I had talked about getting the band, she tried to talk me out of it. big mistake. that's why when I got approved I only told 2 of my closest coworkers. I don't want everyone to know. I know that sometimes it takes a long time to lose the weight after surgery. I don't want to try to explain to everybody or to talk to people about my surgery. maybe after I start losing some weight I'll feel more comfortable talking about it. I feel I still have a long journey and I don't need any negative comments. Have any of you had to deal with this?

100% agree. i told no one at work. I dont need the food police or people asking me all about it.

Wow, my experience has been wonderful so far. I'm not banded yet, but once I knew I had ins approval and a date scheduled, I told everyone that I work closely with. That means that more than likely, my whole office knows. I have gotten bunches of supportive emails and while I'm on my pre-op diet, they are even trying to not schedule meetings that go through lunch so I don't have to see all of the catered stuff. Of course, I am extremely lucky to work for a company of about 80+ employees and we still manage to have a "family" type atmosphere.

I am recently banded, only 3weeks, and have felt the same way. There are only a handfull of people that know and some of those only out of necessity.

You may be like me...having tried so many diets or programs and having lost weight, ALOT of weight on occasions...only to feel crappy once you gain it back. You can't help but wonder what people say or think about you. And that may only be our perception and not the reallity..doesn't matter. I don't want to deal with it either.

There is nothing wrong, in my book, in keeping it to yourself...its a personal decision anyway. You ARE going to lose weight and keep it off...this is going to CHANGE our lives forever...I'm so excited...I want it to happen faster. But it took years to put on the pounds, so its going to take some time to lose it.

Hang in their..and good luck. :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
